POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The Head, Transplant Field Engagement is a Commercial leadership role and is responsible for leading the Transplant field sales organization whose purpose is to achieve or exceed financial targets, as well as to achieve or exceed other goals to help strengthen the market position, penetration, representation and overall success of the franchise portfolio.
This role reports into the VP, Franchise Head and the individual is expected to be an active member of the Transplant Leadership Team and help drive the commercial strategy and execution.
As the leader of a complex business organization, the incumbent is responsible for leading and coaching for success.
As a manager of others, the Head, Transplant Field Engagement is not only accountable for his/her own compliance but also for the compliance of all individuals in his/her team. As such, leads the way and leads by example by demonstrating full knowledge and commitment to all applicable policies. Monitors adherence to Takeda policies and guidelines and acts according to established procedures to ensure all issues are addressed and resolved as required.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ensures the sales organization meets or exceeds set sales goals & other targets.
Directs development and implements sales strategies and tactics directed at Transplant Centers, HCPs, and other customer segments within the targeted universe, in order to achieve said goals and targets.
Directs development of sales strategies and tactics in close collaboration with Marketing, Managed Markets, Commercial Operations, and Patient Services colleagues, through effective analysis of available data, conducting account analysis and considering market information and trends – all while ensuring alignment with approved product strategies and messages.
Ensures the sales organization represents Takeda products with the highest standards and consistent with guidelines, direction, and key marketing strategies & positioning.
Represents Takeda as a senior leader in planned and unplanned interactions with customers.
Ensures close collaboration and coordination among various roles in the Sales organization, such as Regional Business Directors, Transplant Business Managers, and Sales Force Effectiveness Leads.
Together with the Incentive Compensation team in Commercial Operations, designs and recommends performance plans consistent with Takeda’s Policy on Field Incentive Compensation and manages teams in relation to those plans and periodically-determined goals.
Continuously monitors field activities and regularly visits and works with direct reports or other team members, helping to ensure goals and objectives will be met in a customer-focused, compliant, sustained, and scalable manner.
Motivates teams to excel by leveraging personal strengths and coaching, helping to leverage areas of strength and improving in areas for development.
Continuously identifies key talent and oversees a succession planning process for key roles.
Motivates the field sales organization to excel by leveraging personal strengths and coaching/helping to improve in areas for development. Develops similar motivational, development and coaching skills among first line sales leaders.
Works closely with the Commercial Learning & Development function to design, build and deploy role-based training & development offerings pertinent to the field sales organization.
Works closely with Commercial Operations to identify, and to participate in the development of training, tools, data, and other resources to support his/her group in achieving and maintaining optimal performance levels.
Stays abreast of and helps forecast trends regarding the environment in which sales teams operate. This includes: provider and institution trends, government regulations, health systems business trends, health plan strategies, healthcare delivery systems and patterns, patient trends, and more.
Provide strategic input to Marketing teams for development and continued evolution of the marketing plan.
Ensures that recommendations, communications, and decisions are only made in manners consistent with Takeda policies.
Acts promptly and decisively to address compliance and other concerns – in consultation with Manager, Compliance, Legal and/or HR.
SCOPE OF SUPERVISION:
Direct: 4 Regional Transplant Directors
Indirect: ~30 Transplant Account Managers
EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Required
Bachelor’s degree – BS/BA
Minimum of 15+ years of experience ( with 10+ at management level) in the pharmaceutical, immunology, biologic/biotech, or medical device industries which may include district management, specialty account management, marketing management, and/or product management experience
Demonstrated business and strategic planning skills to identify unique selling opportunities and adaptability to changing market conditions
Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets, as well as qualitative goals
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data to develop strategic and actionable business plans to deliver sales results.
Demonstrated strong collaborative abilities
Demonstrated ability to coach, delegate, and motivate a sales team providing timely feedback.
Very strong communication skills – Verbal, written and presentation skills
Desired
MBA or Master’s Degree
Rare Disease, Ultra-rare disease, or Transplant sales leadership experience
Experience developing/working with broad teams in centers of excellence
Previous experience working in support functions such as Sales Training, Sales Operations, etc.
Experience in Managed Markets, including payer dynamics
Product launch experience
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid driver’s license
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to drive to or fly to various meetings/client sites and to do field visits with sales team members, attend meetings on a local and national basis, and training.
Overnight travel
Regular travel to Boston for Home Office / Headquarters interactions
Travel 50-60%
