Job Description:

This position supports the Home Lending Risk sub-line of business in CCB Risk.The primary responsibility is to manage an effective control framework for Home Lending Risk Management, specifically in the areas of Correspondent Management, Lending Authority Oversight, and Policy Governance. Control Management maintains a strong and consistent control environment across the firm. With Control Managers appointed for each Line of Business, Function and Region, there is a comprehensive coverage and joint accountability model with the business executive that promotes early operational risk identification and assessment, effective design and evaluation of controls and sustainable solutions to mitigate operational risk.
Control Management focuses on four areas:

1) Control design and expertise

2) Risks and controls identification/assessment

3) Control breaks and resolution

4) Control governance, reporting and metric creation

Role Responsibilities:


  • Create a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols
  • Work with Risk Management colleagues to develop, document, and validate effective control design and performance evaluations, create robust test scripts to evaluate the efficacy of controls, ongoing monitoring of controls and issue and action plans.
  • Review procedures for control design input
  • Review and analyze program related data (e.g., KRI/KPI) to support business-related programs and strategies
  • Provide leadership support for the end-to-end execution of the Control and Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE), including control breaks and resolutions, to reduce financial loss, regulatory exposure, and reputational risk
  • Engage with control colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators and technology control functions
  • Participate in deep dives as needed to enhance operational controls
  • Create and manage reporting as needed
  • Manage sub-LOB specific or horizontal control programs as needed
  • Produce and present communication pieces as needed, including but not limited to newsletters, webinars, executive presentations, CRO-1 communications
  • Provide back up for peers
  • Maintain awareness of significant changes impacting the business, both internally and externally. Continue building knowledge of policies, procedures, and regulations in order to implement necessary enhancements/improvements in order to modify/expand control activities and to minimize the risk of noncompliance.
  • Participate in project planning as required to assist business in developing appropriate internal control systems or to monitor significant changes in control systems.
  • Partner with business colleagues to drive a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk identification and assessment.
  • Maintain internal trackers/reporting
Qualifications: The ideal candidate has the ability to provide both strategic and tactical support; has a broad range of experience including Risk and Control knowledge; has strong communication and influence skills, and is efficient in managing competing priorities. The candidate should be well networked in Home Lending and have a good understanding of the loan origination process from pre-qualification to servicing and have a never ending thirst for knowledge.

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to Risk Management or equivalent job experience. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Strong and up to date knowledge and understanding of risk and control assessments, internal control testing, and issue management.
  • Proven results of driving improved control environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including advising senior management of risks, challenges and potential solutions.
  • •Ability to collaborate and develop relationships with various partners.
  • •Ability to effectively and efficiently manage concurrent assignments and quickly react to changing or competing priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management and process skills; ability to prioritize and execute on multiple, simultaneous, complex priorities.
  • Ability to identify root causes, recommend change controls to senior management.
  • Ability to document process' and lead process mapping sessions.
  • Working knowledge of Risks and Controls.
  • Preferred experience defining Issues and rating controls.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Pro-active, positive attitude, self-starter approach.
  • Team player.
  • Strong process improvement skills.
  • Adept at all Micro-soft office products (Excel, Power Point (Pitch Pro+) Word, SharePoint creation and maintenance, One Note, Publisher).
  • Experience with the CORE Tool.
  • Experience with Alteryx a plus.
