About the Job: Our Sandy, UT site is seeking a Design Engineer to enhance and further develop our R&D, manufacturing and quality to maintain SPG as a quick-turn supplier of high precision components.  The successful candidate will work directly with all levels of the organization to aid in their process and innovative needs.  The primary responsibility will be Extrusion tool design and the direct result that those tool designs have on the extrusion (tubing). 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Will perform all design work in SolidWorks.  Drawings to be controlled in quality system and revision controlled.

  • Extrusion Tool Design. Work directly with Extrusion Engineers to learn the aspects of tool design and plastic flow. Analyze results and present a solution.

  • Auxiliary Tool/ Apparatus Design: Participate as a team member to identify improvements to the manufacturing process.

  • Draft and communicate technical drawings with tool fabricators and other outside resources.

  • As applicable, review/write technical protocols and reports.

  • Perform all necessary measures of the Quality Management System such as Corrective and Preventative Actions, Nonconforming product, Internal/External Auditing, and other tasks as necessary.

  • Create and maintain quality/inspection documents, if applicable.

  • Process improvement; from tooling inspection, organization, to process aids


  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree: Design, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical or 4 years’ equivalent experience in design and SolidWorks

  • Proficient of SolidWorks design and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Excellent computer skills (Including, but not limited to: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills (as this position will work directly with the highest levels of management and tool fabricators)

  • Detail-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal, critical and quick-thinking skills

  • Familiar with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing Principles.

  • Good working knowledge of quality management systems, ISO 13485:2003, ISO 9001:2008, or similar preferred
