Job Details: Serve on the Integrated Information Management Systems – Information Technology Support Services (IIMS-ITSS) contract as a UNIX/Linus System Administrator (SA) Lead/Help Desk Specialist for the JSSC at the Pentagon, Washington DC on the mid-shift, responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of multiple UNIX/Linux based Operating Systems and supporting systems within the UNIX/Linux Operating Environment (OE).

  

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for providing technical systems administrative support and responding to/diagnosing Tier 0/1 issues related to the UNIX/Linux OE and associated middleware regarding system administrative subjects, concepts, and tool sets supporting JSSC operations to include initial incident response, setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software, validating and implementing critical system patches, allocating mass storage space and isolating/repairing faults using a series of diagnostic tools and tests

  • Ability to direct essential system administration functions across a matrixed team of technicians to include both government and contractor, set up and maintain multiple and different versions of UNIX/Linux operating systems, supporting tools, middleware, and privilege sets, attend and actively participate in change and configuration control functions, and implement Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) in direct support of Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM)

  • Analyze diagnostics of applications, system and vendor software, and resolve operating system/application system performance/challenges, administer/execute UNIX/Linux utilities, system and vendor software; and monitoring and tuning UNIX/Linux-based OEs, system software upgrades, installations, maintenance to improve performance and reliability within the supported OE

  • Troubleshoot and actively work incident management responses related to UNIX/Linux systems, related tool sets and unique customer requirements, complete proper documentation, and follow through to develop strategies, policies, procedures to design and implementation standards related to the use of UNIX/Linux based resources

  • Exercise sound independent judgement in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria associated with obtaining results under this contract; and identify upgrade needs, and anticipate customer requirements by effectively planning, scheduling, and overseeing system upgrades

  • Develop, install and monitor UNIX/Linux operating systems and associated system software; migration application subsystems and determine functional requirements through daily interactions with customers and coordinate with the development teams on systematic enhancements or changes

  • Conduct performance monitoring and work as part of a team to provide support when required and support cybersecurity and IA policy efforts to maintain the cybersecurity posture of supported systems, related hardware, and support tools

  • Evaluate and recommend use of software, guidelines, procedures, and development of project plans to lower level staff to offer prompt resolution options, patch management, version control and administrative systems expertise 

  • Interact with both customer and contract leadership relating complex technical issues/solutions in a manner to establish a partnership

  • Improve the customer's operating environment by providing expert support while also maintaining the cybersecurity/IA posture of systems/hardware managed/administered for both JSSC and JSSC's customers' assets

Education and Experience: 

Required 


  • DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT-II) Certification 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline plus 6 years of experience providing system administration support and or; 

  • Providing UNIX/Linux system administration support in network and software development environments ensuring mission success in support of DoD unclassified/classified networking environments;  

  • Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted. 

  • Minimum active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to be Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) indoctrinated 

Preferred 


  • DoD 8570 IAT-II Certification: CompTIA Security+CE 

  •  CE Certification: CompTIA Linux+ 

Desired 


  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Version 3 Foundation Certification 

Qualifications: 


  • Demonstrate technical expertise and comprehensive knowledge in UNIX/Linux based operating systems to include performing a variety of complex assignments Proficient with installation, configuring, managing, monitoring, and controlling UNIX/Linux operating and supporting system software 

  • Ability to perform a variety of complex assignments to include analysis of system faults, troubleshooting incidents, and conducting a series of diagnostic tests on both systems and hardware to detect, prevent and resolve problems effectively and efficiently 

  • Proven experience reviewing and preparing technical documentation, testing, and installing software, researching and recommending methods and techniques to improve operations, conducting preventive maintenance, and managing/administering multiple technical projects with varying schedules to achieve optimal operation efficiency
