Position Summary

As the senior manager of Network Optimization you will lead a highly trained team of certified international professionals that are responsible for optimizing the air and road networks throughout the Americas Network. The DHL Network is designed to connect our customer shipments with market leading transit times with performance above 96%. The optimization manager will ensure we have sufficient capacity within the network to deliver on our customer promise whilst also ensuring a profitable network so that we continue to be an investment of choice.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for ensuring a network of >7000 flights per month are optimized to deliver a high performing and efficient network

  • Ensure regional routing & bagging guides are maintained and ensure compliance across the region.

  • Lead the network input into the sort change request process for the Hubs & Gateways across the region.

  • Oversee the continual development and enhancement of our demand forecasting & allocation management.

  • Help steer contingency & holiday planning with the various operational functions across the region.

  • Lead the deployment of advanced capacity management tools across the region such as VISTA 2.0 rollout.

  • Responsible for the smooth implementation of network changes across the Americas.

Leadership & Relationship Management


  • Ensure a culture of respect and results is maintained and lead the network optimization team with Head, Heart & Guts.

  • Maintain a safe working environment for team members and help develop safety first plans

  • Enable your team to be high performing network Experts and maintain an open atmosphere where creative solutions can be built.

  • Execute developmental and career planning processes for the NPG team and maintain monthly one-to-ones with each of your team.

  • Train and develop the next managers of the team.

  • Create and maintain close working relationships with the network teams across the world as well as gateway and HUB leaders across the Americas.

  • Liase closely with the Customer Operations Group on developing capacity supply for new business opportunities and in responding to escalations on service failures.

  • Display good judgement skills and have the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Requirements:


  • Minimum of 5 years of industry relevant experience with at least 3 years of which spent supervising professional employees.

  • Degree in Logistics or Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Experience in transport Scheduling or Air Operations

  • Advanced excel skills with the ability to handle large data sets using complex mathematical formulas

  • The role will be primarily on 1st shift but the successful candidate needs the ability to work a variety of shifts within a 24hr period
