Physical Plant and Facilities department is responsible for providing and managing the over 325,000 Square feet of the physical environment that is conducive to the varied needs of the Foundation staff and the diverse products they produce. Our primary responsibility is the allocation, maintenance, and upkeep of GBH’s physical space.  The department also provides security, parking, and mailroom services.


Reporting to the Director of Facilities Services and Security, the Facilities Manager ensures that physical plant and other associated resources meet the needs of the organization’s strategic goals and business plans.  The Facilities Manager is responsible for maintaining, securing, and managing GBH’s office space, radio and TV studios, and event spaces.  He/she also assists in managing our other locations in Woods Hole, Worcester, Springfield, Ashland and Burbank, CA.   This position requires hands on management of internal office moves and other office configurations, subcontractor work, facilities work ticketing system, and supervision of facilities staff.  The Facilities Manager is responsible for building maintenance, cleaning services and, when necessary, perform HVAC tasks as needed.  He/she will serve as the primary back up for the Director of Facilities and Security. 


  • Ensure building complies with all building system testing requirements. And meets government regulations and environmental, health, and security standards.

  • Supervise team of six maintenance technicians. 

  • Oversee and assign work of staff via a work ticketing system.

  • Coordinate and plan for security, staffing, and cleaning for company sponsored events and productions.

  • Partner with Director of Facilities and Security overseeing building projects, renovations, and refurbishments.

  • Assist with preparing and filing reports with government and regulatory authorities including environmental permits.

  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies.

  • Inspect buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.

  • Assist with managing vendor contracts.

  • Maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.

  • Be available to respond to off duty emergencies.

  • Oversee cleaning vendor and staff.


  • Knowledge of high-rise building systems including HVAC, fire alarms/sprinkler systems, elevators, and plumbing required.

  • Experience supervising and mentoring facilities staff. 

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Workday.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.


Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction management, business administration or relevant field required. 5 - 7 years of experience with maintaining facilities (high-rise preferred) and experience supervising facilities staff.
