Job Description:

The Cybersecurity & Technology Controls (CTC) group at JPMorgan Chase aligns the firm's cybersecurity, access management, controls and resiliency teams. The group proactively and strategically partners with all lines of business and functions to enable them to design, adopt and integrate appropriate controls; deliver processes and solutions efficiently and consistently; and drive automation of controls. The group's number one priority is to enable the business by keeping the firm safe, stable and resilient.

To achieve this priority, CTC must deliver quality solutions that are designed for the future and built on modern platforms. We need to optimize how our applications are designed and adopt modern engineering practices in line with the firm's overall technology objectives. Adoption of the practices will also provide the pathway for technologist to improve their speed and the quality of our application development practices.

As an experienced and passionate technologist, you will join our Enterprise Security Technology-Architecture team to drive the execution of Application Modernization initiatives in close partnership with CTC's Engineering teams. Your deep knowledge of SDLC, tool chains, design, test, and development practices will help drive improvements across CTC.

High Risk Roles (HRR) are sensitive roles within the technology organization that require high assurance of the integrity of staff by virtue of 1) sensitive cybersecurity and technology functions they perform within systems or 2) information they receive regarding sensitive cybersecurity or technology matters. Users in these roles are subject to enhanced pre-hire screening which includes both criminal and credit background checks (as allowed by law). The enhanced screening will need to be successfully completed prior to commencing employment or assignment.

Key Responsibilities


  • Identifies application modernization needs, interfacing with leadership as needed to define the scope and position of each modernization initiative
  • Defines the end-to-end processes and activities required to execute each modernization initiative across the line of business
  • Drives the execution of each modernization initiative with participating application development teams and other subject matter experts
  • Provides input to Product Management necessary to maintain overall roadmap for application modernization
  • Creates and maintains the application modernization framework and the implementation run book for delivering each wave of initiatives
  • Obtains feedback to continuously improve execution and establish practices as part of the SDLC
  • Supports measurement of application modernization initiatives

Skills & Expertise

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:


  • Knowledge and understanding of cybersecurity field (e.g., organization practices, operations, risk management processes, principles, architectural requirements, engineering and threats and vulnerabilities, including incident response methodologies, tactics and strategy to protect, detect, respond and recover from attacks)
  • Broad understanding (or proficiency) in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript)
  • Strong knowledge of software development practices and toolsets
  • Broad knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment methodologies and toolchains
  • Strong knowledge of Agile and DevOps cultures
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and tools (e.g., Cloud Foundry, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Knowledge of product management techniques (e.g., product road mapping, feature matrix)
  • Ability to demonstrate thought leadership and provide prescriptive, opinionated direction on development practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams and develop meaningful relationships to achieve common goals
  • Ability to provide hands-on coaching to development teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate concepts to developers and senior managers
