Job Description

The Hardware Development Engineer will be based in Milpitas, California. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team, leading system design, and applications engineering projects.  You will provide subject-matter expertise in electrical system design as part of a team developing innovative electro-mechanical products. You will work on cutting edge products to design and implement innovative and cost-effective, manufacturable product solutions of complex scope in order to support the organization from early prototype development.  You will have the opportunity to develop professionally within a small team and communicate your achievements with the broader Flex organization and mentor junior engineers

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:


  • Design state-of-the-art sensor systems & human-machine interfaces for a variety of products ranging from smart devices, e-Textiles, robotics to flexible circuit design.

  • Engage with clients ranging from early-stage start-ups to fortune 100 medical device companies.

  • Collaborate with industrial design, user interface, mechanical engineering, software, and electrical teams to produce successful product designs.

  • Design electrical schematics and PCB layouts based on product architecture documents.

  • Conceptualize, investigate, and develop innovative product architectures, and assemblies in, display and haptic technologies, and novel sensor systems.

  • Create robust design solutions using ORCAD for the product development in various domains such as smart devices, haptic feedback, advanced microphone systems, RF wireless powered devices.

  • Procure, assemble, and test advanced prototypes to inform design decisions, refinements, and to demonstrate performance.

  • Document design and validation test plans for manufacturing feedback and launch.

  • Present to clients and internal teams to communicate design value, tradeoffs, and recommendation

Here is some of what you’ll need (required):


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with minimum of 3-5 years of experience

  • Fluency with Cadence 

  • Experience designing low-power microcontrollers (including SoC processors), analog circuits, DSP processors, and wireless IOT communication systems

  • In-depth understanding of PCB layout, fabrication technologies, and design trade-offs

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders with different engineering backgrounds 

  • Demonstrated success bringing designs through the prototyping, proof of concept, testing, troubleshooting, and integration phases.

  • Hands-on knowledge of embedded firmware development and testing processes 

  • Proficiency in Python or another general-purpose programming language C/C++

  • Working knowledge of system simulation tools such as SPICE, Matlab, or HFSS

  • Proven experience and success in project and/or team leadership roles

  • Experience with low-power circuit design, DC/DC converters, power management methods and analog design

  • Experience with digital circuit design and various communications protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, etc.

  • Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT etc.

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience leading electrical design projects that span multiple sites and engineering teams

  • Experience with high speed and mixed-signal board-level design

  • Experience with Cellular and 802.11 radio/antenna design and test

  • Knowledge of flex circuit design and manufacturing technologies

  • Experience with textile-based wearable products

  • Understanding of intellectual property, patent, and trade secret business processes
