ODI Mission Statement:

The Ohio Department of Insurance is seeking a creative and detail-oriented PIO to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and proofreading skills, video editing experience, graphic design experience and able to multi-task several projects/issues at the same time.

Your Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Communications


  • Writes copy for news releases, media advisories, presentations, talking points, marketing material, internal communications and letters as needed

  • Proofreads and edits ODI documents and presentations

  • Assists with writing web copy (e.g. maintains voice and brand consistency for the ODI external websites

  • Assists with copy for ODI internal website

  • Attends and participates in events (e.g. state fair)

  • Responds to requests for speakers and presentations

  • Advises and consults with the communications director and other communication team members with all necessary information pertaining to activities, outreach efforts to the public

  • Coordinates the development and delivery of public information projects (e.g. video editing, speeches graphic design and accompanying informational text, social media and website information, brochures and displays)

  • Creates video strategy and content for division initiatives

  • Plans & directs the preparation & dissemination of educational & informational material for assigned divisions

  • Develops & presents information & educational displays, programs, materials &/or speeches

  • Types & proofs brochures, pamphlets, division’s annual re-port section, & other publications to educate government officials & the general public

Knowledge of:

Public relations, Office management, communication (e.g. multimedia techniques, computer graphics, desktop & Web publishing, social media), journalism (e.g. news writing, reporting & editing), Human relations, Agency policies & procedures, Humanities, electronic data processing (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe & Acrobat)

Skill in:

Word processing, Equipment operations (e.g., computer/copier/scanner), Video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro/Elements/Rush, etc.), Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).

Ability to:

Deal w/many variables & determine specific action, Comprehend & discuss highly abstract material, Gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things, copy material accurately & recognize grammatical & spelling errors. 

Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 6 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license. -Or 30 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license. -Or 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Specialist, 64420; valid driver's license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
