Job Description

Position Summary:

The candidate for this role will provide design, development, optimization, and problem solving of Personal Care converting equipment and process solutions for the Cutting, Bonding, and Printing Technology Development team. The initial assignment is as the process engineering lead for various capital/commercialization projects.  The individual in this role will support end-to-end process development ranging from early process definition up to project commercialization and process optimization.  The incumbent reports to a Research & Engineering Manager and receives direction from an overall R&E Project Leader and Engineering Manager in the form of both specific and broadly defined objectives. Key customers include project team members, supply chain, manufacturing plants, and engineering technical leadership.  The incumbent may provide process leadership and support in the form of developing and executing plans for the optimization of, and improvement to, the manufacturing and converting processes for the existing product forms.  The incumbent may also develop, direct, and execute evolutionary changes to the process as dictated by changing business conditions. Key customers include project team members, product supply, manufacturing plants, and engineering technical leadership.

Scope:
Varies widely with assignment and typically includes:


  • Project responsibility of $0.5 MM to $5.0 MM


  • Project team of three to fifteen people


  • Single or multiple projects


Responsibilities:


  • Lead and support process development and implementation of projects from conception through commercialization.


  • Work closely with the product, materials and engineering leads to provide functional guidance in the design, development and/or optimization of converting equipment/processes to meet unit objectives.


  • Acquire and transfer technical knowledge in the areas of cutting, bonding, and printing. 


  • Apply engineering solutions to address root causes of complex issues.


  • Provide leadership by example in managing safety, diversity and quality attitudes and practices.


  • Ensure work is documented and is retrievable.


Qualifications:


  • Position requires a bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience, and continuing self-development. Candidates with an Associate, Bachelor, or advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline and some applicable experience will also be considered.


  • Normally requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a variety of plant and staff assignments.


  • Domestic and global travel up to 30% of the time may be required, based on project work.


  • Experience with converting processes – both high-speed fully automated and semi-automated manual processes.


  • Experience with related tools such as SPC (statistical process control); design of experiments: process capability studies; LEAN would be beneficial.


  • A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team while providing task-oriented direction to others in order to complete projects within required timeframes


  • Experience and expertise with Kimberly-Clark engineering procedures and processes.


  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving results.


  • Experience as a process lead on product development or capitalization projects is a key skill, but not required.
