Job Description

The candidate for this role will provide mechanical engineering support to the Personal Care Packaging Equipment team.  These technologies are key building blocks utilized within our Personal Care manufacturing processes. The individual in this role will support end to end packaging development ranging from early process definition up to project commercialization and process optimization.  Activities are typically focused within our North American Personal Care facilities, but global support may be required. The incumbent reports to an R&E Senior Manager and receives direction in the form of specifically defined project objectives. The incumbent will provide mechanical and process leadership and support in the form of developing and executing plans for the optimization of, and improvement to, the packaging equipment processes for the existing and planned product forms.

ORGANIZATION:

The incumbent reports to an R&E Senior Manager and takes work direction from other R&E mechanical, project and engineering leaders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Work closely with fellow engineers on multiple product or process improvement projects from conception through commercialization.


  • Provide functional leadership and creativity in the initiation of design, development, and optimization of Personal Care packaging equipment and processes.


  • Develop knowledge and skills in leadership of the application of engineering principles, scientific analysis, LEAN principles, and project management.


  • Carry out all job responsibilities in a safe manner. Develop and upgrade equipment and processes that meet safety codes, policies and guidelines while providing accurate documentation.  Provide for the safety and well-being of operators, maintenance, and other personnel.


  • Identify and troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide necessary solutions to eliminate root cause.


  • Assist in the development of others within the area of incumbent's expertise.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities and drive them to achieve intended results.


KEY CUSTOMERS:
 

R&E project teams, Product Supply teams including the mill Engineering, Maintenance and Asset Teams, Contracted Technical Service Providers.

SCOPE:
 

Vary widely with assignment and typically include:


  • Project responsibility of less than $1.0MM.


  • Member of a project team ranging from small to large and complex.


  • Typically a single project, but may also be assigned portions of several projects.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.


  • Note: Candidates with an associate degree with relevant engineering/scientific experience may also be considered.


  • Analytical skills to collect and assess data to support technical recommendations.


  • A demonstrated ability to lead self or small teams to achieve intended results.


  • Evidence of continuing self-development.


  • Ability to work within a team-based environment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Technical knowledge and experiences with high speed packaging equipment.


  • Prior exposure to plant/manufacturing experiences.
