The Safety Assurance organization is responsible for PG&E's comprehensive safety and health audit program, management and verifications of controls and coordination of external safety-related assessments. The work of the Safety Assurance Group is critical in demonstrating that PG&E's processes and controls for health and safety are effective and continue to achieve their intended objectives.
Position Summary
The Lead Auditor (Health & Safety), Principal, is a key resource within the Enterprise Health & Safety (EHS) - Safety Assurance Group who will plan, lead and facilitate PG&E's safety audit program, as well as external safety assessments, in a way that adds value, supports improvement, and provides assurance on internal and external expectations and requirements. The Lead Auditor, Principal, provides expertise in health & safety, technical safety engineering, auditing techniques and project management.
Reporting Relationship
This position will report to the Director of Safety Assurance.
Job Responsibilities
Executes risk-based health & safety audits with minimal input from supervisor. Independently plans work to meet assigned audit objectives.
Plans, leads, facilitates and reports health & safety audits, as well as coach and mentors audit team members.
Facilitates pre-audit planning and visits/meetings to align with scope, methodology and logistics.
Performs, and manages audit team members to accomplish, audit activities including interviews, sampling, observations, logistics, report writing, and reporting and issuance of audit report
Facilitates post audit action planning workshops to assist auditable unit on action planning and completion verification.
Monitors audit timelines, milestones and resource usage
Facilitates execution of external safety assessments, such as Independent Safety Oversight Committee (ISOC) assessments
Develops and/or maintains audit protocols to support the health & safety audits.
Performs health & safety control advisory work as requested by EHS or management and identify areas of opportunity for process and control improvements.
Solves problems with moderate scope and complexity and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Safety Management or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
At least 10 years audit related experience in health, & safety, process safety or other related areas
Desired:
Master's Degree in Engineering, Safety Management or job-related discipline
15 years of relevant safety management experience
5 years of experience in a company with a size and complexity similar to PG&E
Job related certification, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
Knowledgeable in OSHA regulatory requirements and ISO 45001
Demonstrated ability to develop audit protocols, standards and plans, with the ability to lead audits, scoping them using a risk-based approach and different techniques
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal and presentation skills, to effectively influence others, including senior leaders
Experience in project management
Customer-oriented, with a proven track record of achieving measured superior performance improvements
Strong leadership and collaboration skills to create teams, develop plans, drive progress and accomplish results
