We partner with all lines of business to develop and integrate enterprise-wide innovative and proactive safety and health solutions, while ensuring regulatory compliance and reducing risk.
Position Summary
Develops company-wide technical standards for Safety and provides subject matter expertise on a variety of safety topics. Interprets safety and health regulations, contributes to policies, and helps develop safety and health programs. Leads safety improvement initiatives, and supports the adoption of key life safety requirements. Partners with Lines of Business and/or Regional Leaders to implement processes and advises business groups by providing direction on the development of specific procedures. Oversees detailed process and procedure development, implementation and communication.
The work location for this position is flexible within the PG&E service territory. Travel is required (including visits to the Bay Area).
Job Responsibilities
Supervises and manages the overall performance of department
Creates a safety strategy for critical safety standards that achieves the goals and objectives of the business and simultaneously aligns with the corporate safety strategy.
Provides support to emergency preparedness command system when needed
Drives the design, development, review and implementation of innovative tools, programs, and solutions to support existing safety and health standards, PG&E safety guidance documents, and the safety goals of the organization. This includes topics such as lock-out/tag-out, confined space, electrical safety, working at heights, etc
Works and interacts with outside regulatory agencies when needed in discussing new regulatory requirements via the State of California Standards Board or with CalOSHA investigators while conducting serious incident investigations.
Translates functional goals into programs/projects with significant business impact.
Develops operating policies and procedures that affect multiple teams or a large work unit representing multiple disciplines.
Interprets, recommends, and executes modifications to function policies.
Ensures a fundamental integration of Safety improvement concepts for each Line of Business
Leads and drives continuous improvement and safety performance. Actively pursues best practices by benchmarking with other utilities as well as other industries. Utilizes leading and lagging key performance metrics and provides regular summaries of safety performance to leadership.
Responsible for setting the budget for own department
Ensure contractor safety agreements include safety expectations
Qualifications:
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
8 years of relevant Safety experience.
3 years in a leadership role (supervising people).
Desired:
Master's Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related discipline
Certified Utility Safety Professional certification
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Progressive and significant experience in operations, maintenance or construction
Experience in the utility industry
Strong technical safety skills and knowledge of regulations
Ability to manage projects, organized, effective communicator
Able to work under pressure, make progress on various priorities simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines
People oriented, open and direct, approachable
Ability to influence, sell, negotiate ideas, projects and initiatives, with peers, leaders, and the workforce at large
