VHB is seeking a Corporate Sustainability Director to lead our many sustainability and social responsibility initiatives. This position can be located out of any of VHB's offices in the Eastern United States.

About the Position

Corporate Sustainability Director | Eastern US

As a company founded on stewardship, sustainability is inherent to who we are and to our Generational Company philosophy, which guides us as we thoughtfully and strategically grow. The internally-focused Corporate Sustainability Director will partner with our Sustainability Practice Leader to ensure that these initiatives are fully integrated across our operations, business practices, and client deliverables. Each business decision, project, and opportunity will be viewed through a sustainability lens across our markets, services, and regions and sustainability best practices will be woven into our approach and processes. Internal and external stakeholders will understand and embrace VHB's approach to applying sustainability best practices. It will be embedded into the firm's culture and strategic planning process and further differentiate VHB in the industry as we evolve to meet increasing client challenges, improve our nation's mobility, and shape communities in a sustainable and meaningful way.

Responsibilities


  • Develop/identify key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure corporate sustainability performance, as well as set up targets for future years

  • Provide thought-leadership to influence change at all levels of the company

  • Work with Sustainability Practice Leader to capture sustainability proof points across VHB and map VHB's work to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Engage with Green Teams across VHB's offices to coordinate sustainability initiatives and share best practices/lessons learned as well as provide coaching and leadership support

  • Leverage technology to create a Green House Gas (GHG) emissions inventory for VHB operations company-wide (travel, office energy, commuting, etc.)

  • Work with internal Communications and Marketing department to increase visibility of (and interest in) VHB's corporate sustainability efforts

  • Engage with VHB's People & Culture team in order to support and inform diversity & inclusion campaigns, interviewing and onboarding, and employee resilience (mental health and wellness)

  • Advance office initiatives: waste management, consumables procurement, energy and water consumption, etc. and provide leadership support

  • Develop relevant internal training material

Skills & Abilities


  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills to use data and metrics to evaluate outcomes and support assumptions

  • Leadership and mentoring skills

  • Self-motivated; high level of independence and ability to create opportunities within an organization through partnerships and taking ownership of deliverables

  • Highly organized

  • Experience with stakeholder facilitation and public presentations

  • Ability and willingness to travel to VHB offices across its geographic footprint

Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree

  • 10+ years of professional experience in corporate sustainability and/or leading sustainability projects or related corporate social responsibility initiatives

  • Management experience across multiple geographic regions and ability to thrive in a matrixed organization

  • Proven record of change management and demonstrated successes establishing corporate sustainability initiatives

  • Passion for/knowledge of sustainability issues and staying ahead of industry trends
