Overview


Research Finance Analyst Senior will manage a portfolio of grants & contracts and will serve the primary point of contact for grants administrators and PI for fiscal management.

Requirements


  • Communicates with department and PIs throughout grant lifecycle and assists in the development and submission of all requests for a change of PI, no-cost extension requests, and budgeting requests.

  • He/she will be responsible for setting up project awards and amend as needed.

  • Interfaces with the IS team, identifying gaps in the system and suggest modifications - open tickets when necessary by explaining issues

  • Prepare Financial Status Reports and invoices in accordance with sponsor requirements.

  • Monitors grant expenses, receivables and revenue.

  • Reviews and processes non-personnel and personnel costs transactions.

  • Ensures that financial data is accurate and timely, monitor receivables and receipt of funds.

  • Reviews and processes non-personnel costs transfers and personnel requests.

  • Processes incoming subcontract invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance before being paid.

  • Provides institutional oversight to ensure that all expenses posted to a sponsored project are allowable, and the accurate recording of these expenses on the general ledger is consistent with generally acceptable accounting principles (GAAP) and the sponsor's terms and conditions.

  • Participates in the close-out of funds including the preparation of closeout documents and closing entries.


  • Serve as a technical expert and provide guidance and coaching to RFS I and RFS II colleagues.

  • Contributes to the preparation of training materials and conduct training sessions within the department.

  • Contributes to the preparation, review, and modification of Standard Operating Procedures consistent with all pertinent internal and external regulations.

  • Prepares, analyzes, and submits quarterly Federal Cash Transaction reports for federal grants and contracts to the Federal government.
  • Manages Research Accounts Receivable and facilitates Uniform Guidance annual Audit.
  • Covers for Manager as needed - run and/or attend meetings, compile tracking reports, etc.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.



Qualifications



  • BS/BA required. Minimum of7 + years in post-award accounting required. This level is responsible for a higher grant portfolio; performs tasks with minimal supervision and is an active participant on various committees. Position also acts as a mentor for junior staff. Special projects as assigned.

  • Knowledge of all federal regulations associated with managing federal grants and contracts

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices

  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels in and outside of DFCI

  • PeopleSoft skills highly desirable

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations associated with managing Federal grants

  • Ability to maintain favorable working relationships with a wide variety of professional groups

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to multi-task and function as an integral member of the team
