Job Summary

The Investigative Reporter is an On-Air Talent that researches, produces, and presents multi-layered, complex stories, sometimes in longer format or series, that establish/maintain the stations identify and image in the community to support the station's brand. Responsible for obtaining and verifying evidence by interviewing, observing, or by analyzing records. This reporter will also be accountable for accurate reporting of stories as they may impact and/or create controversy in the local community.

Essential Job Functions

50% In depth research and observation for information to tell thoughtful and provoking investigative stories. Develop, produce and report findings in a series or specials for various newscasts. Determine scope, timing, and direction of project.

20% Follow actions of local government and business leaders on a regular basis by attending board meetings, interviewing officials, and monitoring issues of continuing community interest.

15% Perform general assignment duties as necessary, i.e. breaking news events.

10% Assist other reporters with story sources and investigative leads.

5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements EOE

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Broadcasting or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Five to seven years related reporting experience. Investigative experience strongly preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of undercover reporting - legal, journalism, ethical issue, strong writing,

Must be understand/able to use news management software and editing, preferably, iNews and Avid.

Must possess strong research, journalism and storytelling skills.

Must possess strong organization skills.

Ability to multi task and manage short and long-term projects.

Must possess strong writing skills a priority.

Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Strong on-air presence.
