The Curriculum Research Specialist assists with primary research and conducts secondary research efforts to help support, guide and develop products and services optimizing student performance. This position also maintains and updates documents and external responses around curriculum design.

  • Conduct secondary research to address research questions related to key components of curriculum and product development;

  • Collect, organize, analyze, synthesize, distribute and champion current secondary research (e.g. best practice research, literature reviews, empirical studies) and trends in instructional design, curriculum development and curriculum frameworks. Bring key insights and new knowledge to the organization and make actionable recommendations to Product Development Leadership;

  • Provide technical expertise to Product Development Team to guide curriculum design strategy based on research. Document and publish research base used in curriculum design;

  • Provide responses for Request for Proposals (RFPs), school applications, accreditation reviews, or other external requests regarding research-based curriculum design and/or strategy for intentional curriculum design that ensues access and equity or supports specific student needs (e.g. social emotional learning, diversity, supports for diverse learners)

  • Collaborate with alignment team to research and stay abreast of changes in school requirements for curriculum frameworks for new/upcoming courses.

  • Assist the Director, Curriculum and Product Research in drafting reports and creating other types of deliverables (e.g., presentations, infographics) to communicate findings to a variety of audiences, performing literature searches and preparing and annotating bibliographies. Check facts, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy

  • Collaborate with web development team to promote product research findings.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.


Minimum Required Qualifications 



  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, social sciences or related field AND

  • Five (5) years of experience in research, curriculum development or online education

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: None required.


Other Required Qualifications: 



  • Familiarity with national and state standards in K-12 education, and with current trends in methodology and curriculum development

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to closely proofread/edit written work

  • Ability to succinctly and efficiently synthesize content

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks

  • Ability to take initiative, pay attention to detail and deliver high quality output in a timely manner in a highly collaborative online environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.); Web proficiency.

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

  • Ability to pass required background check

Desired Qualifications:  



  • Master’s degree in education or related field

  • Familiarity with pedagogy appropriate to variety of developmental levels

  • Familiarity with federal and state education databases

  • Experience conducting K-12 academic research

  • Awareness of current trends and directions in K-12 research, curriculum, online learning assessment, standards and compliancy/regulations

  • Experience with producing materials for public review

  • This is a home based position.  This position is open to residents of, and may be performed remotely from Washington, D.C., and from any state except Colorado.
