A Industrial PostDoc position within R&D will be responsible for development of new chemistries/technologies applicable to building materials and provide technical support, guidance, and solutions to manufacturing plants. The position will report directly to the Laboratory Director and work with other scientists with expertise in construction related formulated products. Formulated products include but are not limited to cement plasters, mortars, joint treatments, coatings, adhesives & sealants, textures, and reinforcing tapes & beads. The successful candidate will coordinate with product management, technical services, manufacturing, safety, and quality teams to achieve strategic technical goals.
Job Functions:
Experimental design, sample preparation and testing, product development, raw material qualification, manufacturing scale up, production optimization
Perform independent experimental research in a multidisciplinary environment
Utilize technical knowledge, data, statistical tools, etc. to solve technical challenges
Document experimental results and prepare technical reports
Communicates complex concepts in a manner that is understood by plants, research technicians, quality control, customers and other internal and external parties regarding development, applications, quality assurance, and related programs and services
Ensure compliance to safety procedures and good housekeeping practices
Contributes to the latest developments within the industry and professional field by meeting with people of similar capacities, reading industry and technical literature and attending professional group meetings
Acts as a technical specialist in their respective fields representing the company
May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education and Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field with 1 to 2 years of post-doc/industrial experience or an M.S. with 5 or more years of industrial experience
Experience and track record of research publications, patents
Track record of innovative thinking and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong project management and team leadership skills
Excellent presentation skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills
Willingness and ability to travel to plants & customer locations, as necessary
