The Washington Post is hiring a Quality Assurance analyst with a focus on supporting our mobile application engineering teams. The Washington Post mobile apps deliver our world class journalism to our users and provide value to our subscribers. The role would work within this fast-paced environment that has a customer focused culture. We are looking for a self-driven analyst that has a passion for quality and a similar focus on the customer experience.
The position will work with multiple sprint teams, product managers and engineers and be involved across all aspects of planning, building and delivering new releases to our mobile app platforms.
The role requires working with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and break them into user stories, develop test plans, test cases and execute test scenarios.
The role serves a key component in the development cycle in validating individual features and releases in close coordination with the engineering team and product owner.
The analyst will support the product managers and engineering leads as quality gatekeepers for our production environment.
Responsibilities
Plan, implement, and perform regression and functional testing of new functionality
Analyze test results and work with developers and product managers to identify and fix root cause issues
Drive testing activities across multiple teams including Functional Testing, Mobile app testing, Data Validation, Regression Testing, System Integration Testing, Automated Testing and User Acceptance Testing.
Determine test environment requirements, support generation of test data requirements in coordination with product owners and engineering leads
Track and prepare reports on testing activities including testing results, test case coverage, defects discovered and their status and performance.
Configure, execute and maintain automated testing scripts for Mobile apps
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience.
2+ years of demonstrable testing experience
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in quality assurance, automated testing and load testing
Basic experience with selenium or any other automation tools, and willing to learn more about the automation.
Experience working in an agile environment and using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Zephyr Scale
Experience in agile software development teams working iteratively with designers, product managers, and stakeholders.
Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences
Sharp attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to multitask in a deadline driven environment
Practical experience analyzing application performance, particularly from user perspective is a plus
