Howmet Fastening Systems is looking for a Processing Technician II in our Heat Treat department. This position will operate all equipment to perform heat treating, plating, waste water treatment, or waste oil treatment processes; perform quality checks and complete production work orders and/or related documents; when performing any tasks involving hazardous chemicals or hazardous waste, follow the regulations and requirements of SPCC Plan, RCRA regulations and operating procedures involving hazardous chemicals outlined in the Huck Fasteners Environmental management. This position will be based in our Waco, TX plant.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Operate equipment and perform duties as related to functional area of assignment, listed below, and be familiar with safety, environmental, and emergency procedures for equipment in that functional area.
  • Operate and adjust furnaces and generators and must be familiar with emergency procedures for this equipment.
  • Maintain familiarity with various grades of alloy, carbon steels, aluminum, and stainless steels, and be able to heat treat any parts made from the various grades to produce the required properties
  • Perform shot blast cleaning operations operating Pangborne or Wheelabrator brand production equipment.
  • Transfer aluminum product to trays and transfer to aging furnaces. Operate the aging furnaces.
  • Operate Tempering furnaces. Using Safe Work Instructions, must set up and adjust furnaces within guidelines to provide acceptable product.
  • Complete emergency startup and shutdown procedures, especially after non-scheduled power outages on assigned machines.
  • Operate Forklift to transfer material between processes
  • Maintain working knowledge of principles of combustion safety.
  • Operate parts washing machines to remove oil and other contamination.
  • Recommended: Participate as active member of various safety teams-Confined space rescue team, fire team (mandatory), CPR, ERT, Hazwopper (Hazardous waste and emergency response).
  • Perform job duties in compliance with quality standards.
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Read charts and graphs and follow instructions closely with minimal supervision.
  • Follow instructions closely.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Wear safety equipment as required and work safely at all times.
  • Make out production reports, time cards and other reports or forms as required.
  • Operators of power equipment will be responsible for checking oil, water, fuel, etc. before and during the operation of said equipment.
  • Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Arconic Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to lean manufacturing principles and techniques. Performs all work activities in accordance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • When performing any tasks involving hazardous chemicals or hazardous waste, follow the regulations and requirements of RPCC Plan, SPCC Plan, RCRA regulations and operating procedures involving hazardous chemicals outlined in the Huck Fasteners Environmental management.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Prior experience in an industrial setting

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
