Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Service Rep in our Pressure Sensitive Adhesives business at our Dublin, OH location This is a very visible, significant role within the Company. This position will report to the Technical Service team leader.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Sales Alignment


  • Support assigned account managers in their role of customer support.

  • Focus on maintaining current business and closing new opportunities.

  • Concentrate on projects where the account manager has determined the feasibility of the project meets the current requirements.

  • Include the account manager in all formal customer communications.

  • Provide product line presentations to customers when requested by Sales in an effort for continued customer growth.

  • Work as a joint team with the account manager in developing customer relationships and future growth.

Customer Support


  • Assist customers by providing the best product recommendations possible.

  • Develop strong relationships at each customer location.

  • Widen customer contact base in anticipation of the loss of primary customer contacts.  Identify the customer’s future key decision makers and establish those contacts.

  • Identify opportunities for our customers to improve their productivity and quality.

  • Assist customers in presentations to their end users.

  • Conduct Ashland product training as needed to increase their knowledge of Ashland products to support future sales growth.

  • Respond to all technical questions and concerns customers raise.

  • Take the lead role in Customer Complaint Resolution.

  • Lead field trials.

  • Handle all EHS concerns identified by our customers. 

  • Serve as the lead in communication of current project status.

  • Overall responsibility for the lab work performed for all customer projects.

Technical Service


  • Address all technical issues involving current products at customer sites.

  • Support the Technical Service team by answering any questions brought up on products and applications by other team members. 

  • Active participation in the monthly product development and Technical Service meetings.

  • Provides cross functional support to marketing, product management, R&D and manufacturing

Product Modifications


  • Modify products as needed for specific customer applications.

  • Make recommendations on new product/service and application requirements.

  • Perform lab work required to document modification improvements. 

  • Assist product development as needed

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:


  • Bachelor degree in science is required

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a lab setting formulating and testing

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with external customers and internal resources

  • up to 50% travel to customer locations and manufacturing sites

  • Team player; willing to help where needed

  • Self-management with completing assigned tasks

  • Good time management for supporting multiple projects

  • Organization and planning skills

  • An appreciation of laboratory safety, environmental issues, and environmentally responsible products

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without restrictions

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:


  • Major in chemistry, biology, engineering is preferred

  • 5+ year’ experience with adhesives and coatings

  • 5 years Industrial experience in formulating and laboratory testing is advantageous
