BACKGROUND

The Centralized Modeling & Analytics (CMA) team within State Street’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization is looking for an experienced quantitative analyst to join our team in Boston, MA.

The CMA ​​organization provides analytics based services and solutions to business units across State Street. Our mission is to create value through data driven solutions enabling ​State Street and our business partners to make timely and informed decisions.

POSITION PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual that will fill this position will have a primary focus on balance sheet management risks and initiatives that span treasury risk disciplines, with a goal to understand the risk profile of State Street’s assets and liabilities under a variety of economic and financial market environments, as measured on both a current and forecasted basis.  Examples of areas of focus include to build and use econometric models and cash-flow based valuation models to forecast investment portfolio credit losses, risk-weighted assets, and market values for the investment portfolio, which is composed of both structured and non-structured fixed income securities across multiple asset classes and jurisdictions in the North American, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions. Other areas of focus for the individual will be utilizing the program skills to improve implementations of existing models and procedures to achieve risk excellence and meet the standards of both internal and regulatory risk guidelines.

Specific job responsibilities include the following:


  • Utilize and enhance quantitative and analytical approaches to evaluate and forecast investment portfolio credit losses, risk-weighted assets and fair values under a variety of economic and financial market conditions.  Evaluate the models and approaches of third-party vendors for these risks, as necessary

  • Collaborate with CMA/GTRM colleagues, GT business partners and other relevant areas of the bank to incorporate regulatory capital constraints and potential policy impacts on investment strategy and allocation decisions

  • Provide support on special projects, including review, oversight and analysis to support key strategic Global Treasury business initiatives

  • Assist in development and establishment of risk limits, guidelines and policies, as needed

  • Ensure appropriate reporting and governance exists to communicate relevant risk information to senior management

REQUIREMENTS

State Street seeks well-rounded individuals with a combination of strong quantitative and analytical aptitude, proven leadership capabilities, strategic and creative thinking, and exceptional communication skills.  Additionally, basic qualifications include:


  • Maters’ or PhD in Financial Engineering, Math, Statistics, or other relevant quantitative fields. Demonstrated interest in pursuing career in quantitative finance

  • 3-5 years of working experience in financial modeling field as a key contributor; 1-2 years of experience at large financial institutions or asset management firms

  • Advanced knowledge of time series analysis, machine learning, and stochastic calculus

  • Hands on experience in building loan level or pool level credit models for various structured and non-structured securities

  • 3-5 years of programming experience in Python and R. High proficiency in building complex object-oriented programs with highly efficient code that can handle big data

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills to be applied in understanding and developing all kinds of financial models, analyzing big data and implementing complex concepts

  • Results oriented with willingness to work in a position with uneven and high priority project work

  • Willingness and ability to master concepts quickly

  • A demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects as well as the ability to be a team player in a fast-paced, high-energy level environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to articulate ideas, analysis and complex concepts effectively to broad audiences

  • Competence and confidence to gain credibility and collaborate for success across the organization
