OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for providing a range of engineering services to the Indianapolis plant, specific to the repair, restoration, installation and project management for site buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery (electrical, electronics, mechanical). This includes project management from conception through implementation.All decisions shall be made with the goal of minimizing EHS impacts and manufacturing costs while maximizing product quality and process efficiencies.The incumbent reports to the Engineering Manager and work closely with all groups in the plant and with technical colleagues throughout the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Demonstrate a commitment to EHS by supporting and participating in Indianapolis EHS initiatives and by considering the impact of all processes on the environment and occupational health and safety of our workforce.

  • Provide engineering support to team members in electrical, electronic, and mechanical industrial aspects. Be forward looking into improvements that will have positive impact on the effectiveness of the processes.

  • Direct maintenance personnel in the repair, restoration, installation and project management for site buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery.

  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of equipment, technology, materials, processes, and maintenance principles and apply this knowledge to resolve problems and expand and improve facility and other assets.

  • Perform studies of plant systems and equipment (either assigned or identified by incumbent) aimed at improving their reliability and/or minimizing plant costs.

  • Provide competent and timely engineering support for the correction of process equipment deficiencies, improvements in equipment and processes, installation of new or refurbished equipment, and facilities maintenance and improvements.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to prepare capital requests. When appropriate lead teams, participate as a team member, or assume entire responsibility for projects from concept to implementation including design, justification, construction, purchase, installation, operation and cost control. Follow-up after startup to insure proper operation and reliability.Adopt a "hands on" approach when necessary to insure effective startup of new equipment and proper training of Department and plant personnel.

  • Assist maintenance personnel, when needed, in troubleshooting problems with equipment and systems. Encourage employees to solve problems on their own and to utilize all resources available to them (i.e. engineering, drawings, manuals etc.).

  • Execute spending authority in such a way that supports the budget, and also seeks cost saving opportunities.

  • Performs other duties as required by the Engineering Manager to enhance performance of the Indianapolis plant.

  • Solid planning, leadership and administrative skills, along with critical thinking and strong analytical abilities to achieve results and improve key metrics

  • High energy, demonstrates urgency and fast pace, ability to manage multiple, complex tasks, and deal easily with pressure on a day in and out basis

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA and NEC regulations and safety leadership principles to lead all associates in the identification and correction of at-risk behaviors and unsafe conditions

  • Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing principles to lead and/or facilitate improvement projects

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES


  • 1-3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, along with experience working with teams.

  • Microsoft Office Products and Basic Manufacturing Systems.

  • Six Sigma training and applications.

  • Project management and leadership skills.

  • Technical training at various levels of the organization.

  • Excellent team skills - as team member and trainer and developer.

  • Experience with wire and cable manufacturing is a plus.

  • Experience in an operator led environment is a plus.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Science degree (preferred in an Engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Polymer, Chemical or Electrical Engineering).
