The Instructional Assistant is a key member of the academic support team. NVVA is creating a high touch approach to educational support and expect instructional assistant to have superior customer service skills and a commitment and desire to provide the best experience possible for their students and families. Instructional Assistants provides support to teachers, instructors and faculty members. They assist with a variety of functions, including implementing instructional programs, assessing student performance and other tasks as needed by instructor. This is a 10-month position (August – May).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  



  • Completes clerical duties as needed (taking and recording attendance, drafting and sending out progress reports for students, answering emails and phone calls from families)

  • Assess students

  • Make family connection calls

  • Assist in preparing instructional materials

  • Assist with instruction in small groups or one on one

  • Assists with proctoring face to face testing

  • Attends face to face blended to assist teachers

  • Participates in school and k12 provided professional development opportunities

  • Travels at least once per month to assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open house and orientations

  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This candidate has to be able to obtain at least a Nevada Substitute License from the DOE.


Education/Experience: Preferred: Associates’ Degree (A.A) from two-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Certificates and Licenses:  Nevada Substitute Teaching license preferred.


Language Ability: Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.


Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to maintain command of theoretical knowledge of human behavior and learning including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques


Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, word processing software; spreadsheet software; Internet software and database software.
