Summary
Chemical application and specialty equipment supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operation of multiple self-propelled sprayers. This position will also be tasked with maintaining specialty equipment and overseeing their operation.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Ability to operate equipment and train employees on the proper and safe use of equipment
Manage the spray crew activities on a day-to-day basis
Maintain records associated with pesticide applications
Coordinate with farm manager and agronomist on rates and timing of applications
Ensure the spray crews accurately execute the chemical application schedule created by agronomists
Perform routine maintenance on equipment
Be an active participant in the budgeting process
Assist shop crew in specialty equipment project planning and implementation
Oversee corn and milo ground prep and planting
Manage external lab data collection and activities
Execute all gypsum and limited dry fertilizer spreading on potato acres
Bring an innovative viewpoint to all equipment processes within the Dalhart location
Assist where possible during potato harvest
Physical Demands
Walking and working outdoors in the elements.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Driving between farm sites.
Expected Hours of Work
Typical, daily farm hours 8 to 10 hours with varying start and end times depending on weather conditions.
Typically, Monday through Friday with weekends as required based on season and weather.
Harvest and planting seasons are busy and may require longer hours and weekends.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years farming experience
Minimum of 1 year experience with repairing farm equipment.
Basic math, reading and writing skills
Possesses good communication skills and is able to work in a team environment
Computer Skills- ability to use Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn farm data management systems
Ability to obtain Private Pesticide Applicators License for the state of Texas
Desired Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in an Agriculture or Science field
Experience operating sprayers and applying pesticides
A knowledge of John Deere GreenStar and precision farming systems
Bilingual in Spanish
