Summary/Objective: The Engineering Assistant supports the research and development operations by creating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving processes, in addition to monitoring and measuring processes and equipment, supporting R&D activities by maintaining the labs and serving as a backup for testing. 
 
Essential Functions: 
Research and Development Project Support 


  1. Lead projects that enable a safer, more organized, cleaner, and higher-performance workplace. 

  2. Take an active part in teh prototype build process by executing builds and developing a precise and reliable process.

  3. Develop and maintain clear, accurate, simplified, standardized work instructions; perform training as needed. 

  4. Support engineering by providing technical assistance and solutions when when the team encounters quality and device performance issues. 

  5. Attend regular team meetings and actively participate/lead and assume ownership of improvement tasks. 

  6. Implement ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 compliant processes. 


Testing Support 



  1. Ensure that electrical, mechanical, and chemical equipment and fixtures are kept in good working order; maintain/repair as needed. 

  2. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems as needed.


  3. Improve testing procedures and document best practices; perform training as needed. 

  4. Conduct and participate in measurement variation and alignment studies (GRR, Round Robin, Standard Verification, etc.). 

  5. Ensure that the labs have the appropriate inventory of consumable items; procure as needed. 

  6. Provide support for ad hoc testing or material characterization.

Required Education and Experience: 


  • High School Diploma plus 5 years of technical experience 

  • Strong problem-solving and complex troubleshooting skills 


Required Skills and Abilities: 


  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel 

  • Ability to train employees 

  • Self-starter able to work with minimal support 

  • Excellent organization and documentation skills  

  • Effective written and oral communication skills 

  • Ability to recognize inconsistent or unexpected results and proactively address to resolve inconsistency 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and complex troubleshooting skills 

  • Experience with MSA, GR&R, and SPC

  • Hands-on electronics and material testing experience 


Preferred Education and Experience: 


  • Ten years of experience in manufacturing 

  • Associate’s degree in Science or Engineering 


Preferred Skills and Abilities: 



  • 8D problem solving experience and experience with Six Sigma and Lean tools 

  • Corrective and Preventative Action experience 

  • Understanding of network analyzers 

  • 2-5 years developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing and testing processes 

  • Extensive hands-on materials testing experience 

  • Experience with Proficient and Minitab software packages
