Job Description:

This position is located in Puerto Rico and requires the skills of an energetic, qualified accountant with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position ideally within the maritime industry. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining all the necessary accounting policies and procedures and internal controls required to ensure timely and accurate financial information, while fully safe-guarding the company’s assets at all times. This individual must possess strong strategic/financial planning skills as well as the ability to lead, collaborate and mentor staff from all levels in the organization to create and maintain a corporate culture of fiscal accountability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

  • Coordinate month-end and year-end financial closing process including reconciliation and analysis of balance sheet accounts and selected income statement accounts and the subsequent reporting process

  • Develop, implement and maintain a strong system of accounting policies and procedures

  • Develop, implement and maintain effective and efficient internal control systems as they relate to office and vessel operations

  • Develop policies and procedures for producing annual Operating, Cash Flow and vessel budgets

  • Coordinate and monitor the annual budget process including analyzing actual performance results against budgeted amounts

  • Assist senior management with financial planning as requested

  • Establish and manage purchase order system

  • Assist in ensuring tax and regulatory compliance and reporting

  • Direct and oversee Metro and Island service and maintenance facility accounting and procurement

  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor degree required; finance/accounting preferred

  • Minimum of five (5) years of similar financial or accounting experience

  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment, including remote teams

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Adept with confidential, sensitive matters and information

  • Must be organized and be able to multitask; ability to effectively manage multiple priorities of varying deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly and effectively- both orally and written

  • Complete work assignments as directed and efficiently

  • Must be a self-starter and be proactive

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Exceptional customer service skills
