Job Description:


  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Reports to the Patient Accounts Supervisor and Manager. Under general supervision, and within established policies and procedures, is responsible for the collection of all assigned accounts by providing submission of claims, follow-up with the various payers and contacting patients for collection and resolution.

  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    • Education and Experience
      • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. One to two years of experience in patient accounting, collections or other related positions is required.



    • Knowledge & Skills

      • Requires the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively with delinquent accounts and to discuss sensitive financial information in an assertive and tactful manner.


      • Requires knowledge of patient accounting systems, payment policies and procedures as applied to third-party payors and regulatory agencies.


      • Requires the analytical ability to review and organize delinquent accounts to determine the proper collection route to be taken.


      • Requires the public relations skills necessary to resolve difficult billing or patient account problems for the patient who may be upset or under stress.


      • Requires the ability to maintain patient/family confidentiality.


      • Demonstrates proficiency in basic computer skills (i.e., data entry, word processing and spreadsheets) and clerical skills (including the ability to type a minimum of 30-40 wpm and effectively operate standard office equipment specific to the department's needs).

      • Voice level should be kept low in order to protect the confidentiality of patients, visitors and staff.
