The Associate Director, New Product Pipeline is a unique role within GW, spanning responsibility to both R&D and Commercial organizations in product development efforts.  This role is responsible for supporting the development of strategic commercial recommendations for the early portfolio development team (ePDT) through designing and implementing market research that will guide development of target reimbursable product profiles and commercial recommendations.  This role will also facilitate and coordinate Commercial Review Committee activities to ensure implementation of one integrated global commercial voice at GW.  

Reporting to the Senior Director, New Product Pipeline, the selected candidate will  collaborate in a cross-functional team environment in efforts to guide commercial requirements for meaningful early product portfolio development, and in contributing to the success of GWs global Commercial governance team, both of which are fundamental to the long-term success of the company.  The role requires scientific, analytic and empathic capabilities to be successful.

Responsibilities: 


  • Design and implement actionable market research to inform commercial perspective on early product development efforts, including managing the market research implementation, developing objectives and hypotheses, communicating results

  • Gather relevant data from scientific literature, pharmaceutical prescription audits, business literature, analysts report, competitive intelligence, etc to inform development of commercial point of view on early product ideas

  • Actively engage in cross-functional development of target reimbursable product profiles (TRPPs) including draft development, coordinating feedback and discussion amongst scientific and commercial team members, coordinating formal reviews of TRPP within governance

  • Contribute to the development of Commercial Assessments for early portfolio including forecasting, financial analyses, business case development, commercial rationale / strategy according to GWs Product Development Playbook architecture

  • Coordinate and facilitate engagement in GWs Commercial Review Committee, a governance committee.  Liaise with Committee members and product development teams (PDTs) to develop agendas, pre-reads, meeting decks, meeting minutes, and scheduling relative to other governance actions.

  • Advocate on behalf of customers (patients, caregivers, health care providers, payers) during product development interactions.

  • Manage, coordinate or contribute to ad hoc projects related to New Product Pipeline, for the early Product Development team, Commercial Review Committee or other internal department activities as needed

  • Work closely with global R&D and global Commercial teams to conduct business for the ePDT and CRC

Required Experience: 


  • Degrees / advanced degree(s) in life sciences or Marketing required, MBA a plus

  • 5-7 years of experience in a new product planning, strategic marketing, brand management, market research, business development, medical affairs, market access, or drug development function in a pharmaceutical or biotech company

  • Experience in neurology / neuropsychiatry therapeutic areas preferred

  • General understanding of pharmaceutical business including regulatory, clinical development, commercial related issues

  • Able to gather and translate customer requirements for product development teams through market research and development of target product profiles

  • Ability to formulate opinions and insights from desk research, market research, audit data, and competitive landscape, coalesce multiple viewpoints and pieces of information into a point of view

  • Excellent analytical research skills and ability to translate market research output / audit data / other market inputs into actionable plans and compelling narratives

  • Key contributor to development of business cases; able to communicate via writing, presentation, in real time during meetings

  • Outstanding relationship-building and partnering skills and the ability to work cross-functionally

  • Demonstrated experience working on projects requiring high degree of planning, coordination and project management skills

  • Learning agility and being perceptive about cross-functional needs

  • Creative, innovative, analytical thinker; open to new ideas; able to understand and communicate the big picture; comfortable with resolving ambiguous questions and making decisions

  • Strong communicator, able to communicate globally and with cultural sensitivity; Create and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders

  • Ability to work in a results-oriented, project-driven, team environment, prioritize projects, and deliver quality results within tight time constraints

  • Comfortable operating independently and within a team; willingness to roll up sleeves and undertake a variety of tasks

  • Excel & PowerPoint high level of proficiency

  • Experience in managing multiple projects, stakeholders, and time

  • Medium sized/large company experience

  • Available for overnight travel, up to 25%
