Job Description:

Knik Construction, an Alaska paving contractor, is looking for individuals to add to our paving crew. Positions available include, but are not limited to, Paving Operators, Screed Operators, Rakers, and Roller Operators. Applicants will be working in remote Alaskan locations and may be required to rotate to different project sites within the summer season.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities:


  • Operating paving equipment, such as pavers, rollers, brooms, and small skid steers.

  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver.

  • Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.

  • Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.

  • Maintains communication with Project Managers to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.

  • Interacts with Quality Control team to ensure specifications are met.

  • Communicates with Project Managers to ensure efficient and productive work completed in a timely manner.

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.

  • Properly follows all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.

  • Performs additional assignments as required.


Qualifications

Work Requirements:


  • Two year related experience in paving.

  • Thorough knowledge of heavy construction equipment.

  • Demonstrated decision making skills.

  • Ability to work in high production environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ensures a high level of work quality.

  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Current CDL Preferred.

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.

  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Able to work in all weather conditions.

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands.

  • Employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.

  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment:


  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.

  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but is typically moderate.
