Entry Level Industrial Laborer at Geneva Pipe and Precast Company

Job Description:

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: Assist with manufacturing of concrete products.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Perform tasks involving strenuous manual labor in manufacturing a variety of concrete products.

  • Support crew during concrete pours.

  • Help maintain a clean jobsite by picking up and storing tools and equipment.

  • Perform materials handling and storage.

  • Wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and ear protection as needed.

  • Read blueprints.

  • Accurately place and properly secure box lid panels.

  • Place the appropriate panels and C-clamps in the work area.

  • Use a tape measure to set panels at indicated 90-degree angles, lengths, and widths and use C-clamps to secure the panels to each other.

  • Accurately placed plywood inside the edges of the form.

  • Use a tape measure, pencil, and power saw to cut the plywood according to specified dimensions.

  • Place the cut pieces inside the forms at the outer edges, no securing is necessary, as the rebar will hold it in place.

  • All dimensions are accurate and the block-out is secure.

  • Determine whether Styrofoam block-outs are to be used, or if metal block-outs are more appropriate.

  • As needed, place round weight blocks on the Styrofoam block-out; minimizing any movement.

  • Evenly apply form oil to all form surfaces that will be exposed to wet concrete, without excess.

  • Locate the bucket of form oil and the form oil brush, ensure there is sufficient oil in the bucket.

  • All rebar place at proper spacing and fully secured with tie wire.

  • As needed, use a tape measure to properly size the rebar pieces while using the rebar cutter machine.

  • Spray green epoxy paint on any cut edges or nicked areas of the rebar, as needed.

  • Using tie wire and a tie wire spinning tool, begin tying at 6”, 8”, 9” or 12” spacing, according to plans.

  • Prepare round manhole lids.

  • Cutting and placing rebar in round lids.

  • Clean up work area.

  • Setting grade lines.

  • Place and support cast-in frames.

 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:



  • Past experience working with hand tools, saws, air tools, grinders.

 


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • High School diploma or GED would be preferred.

  • Experience working with concrete would be preferred, not required.

Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require working outside of standard hours, weekend or evening work.


Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
