The Role

Within Methodology Consulting Services (MCS) the Solutions Architect specializes in leveraging industry best practices to designing compelling future state solutions for NI's clients as they embark on journeys of digital transformation. As a key member of the MCS team, they provide industry and application leadership required to envision credible and effective prescriptions of what people, process and technology adjustments are required by the client to reach desired business outcomes. The Solutions Architect must be able to apply engineering principles to the complex problems that identified during MCS engagements to define solutions that can be effectively integrated to serve the needs of NI customers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Client-facing during the assessment phase, Solution Architects provide valuable industry experience and application workflow insight to effectively assess and diagnose challenges, value impact and root cause issues in clients current state of test. During this phase, Solution Architects have the foresight to be collecting client needs and requirements

  • After assessment, Solution Architects are responsible to lead the development of future state of client workflows, technologies and processes that would produce the economic outcomes desired by the client. Solution Architects assist the Consultants in preparing executive level recommendations that include current state diagnosis as well as high level future state recommendation

  • Solution Architects will collaborate with a wide group of NI Solution Specialists, Product Planners and partners to accurately research where NI and other technologies apply and could form a solid basis for a multi discipline client solution that is mutually beneficial. Working with NI Planning Architects they will assist in developing a client plan to move from current state into envisioned future state at the appropriate rate and steps

  • Solution Architects use their industry/application experience to bring the client-centered credibility and insight required to collaborate to find optimal technical solutions to project challenges. Work within a range of obstacles when trying to get systems to work together: different operating systems, different programming and database languages, legacy systems that no longer have vendor support

  • Working with Test System Software, Solution Architects will analyze a customer's test systems used for validation or production, be able to understand their underlying technology such as hardware elements, software stack including sequencing, test modules, measurement/instrument I/O and data storages. Whilst SA's should have understanding of test role within product design and factory production processes within a customer's Enterprise infrastructure, the primary expertise should align with test and measurement software technologies and implementation tradeoffs

  • SAs should be familiar with NI technology platforms, product roadmaps as well as experienced in managing test development engineers utilizing the NI platform. The SA will have the insight into optimizing test development for validation or production outcomes

  • Finally, Solution Architects shape the development and final state of the solution to align with the business outcomes needed by the client and NI. They not only know industry best practices, but help create them
  • Key Performance Objectives

  • Delivery of technical architecture and framework recommendations leveraging NI tools and platforms

  • Technical workstreams and decomposition assistance leading to future state

  • Timely delivery of required technical artifacts for successful completion of an engagement

  • Organize & guide team in standardizing the NI Services approach to test system design. Inclusive of concepts of architecture, process/workflow development, data management and project design
  • Qualifications and Skills

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or MAth) discipline or equivalent work experience

  • A minimum of at least 10+ years' experience in software development/design and/or architecture and system integration and/or test and measurements industry is necessary

  • In depth exposure to client implementations, including the decision-making process taken by clients in designing those solutions

  • Experience providing advisory consultation to clients and stakeholders in a complex systems/technology environment

  • In-depth technical knowledge of NI products and platforms, or to be able to rapidly build this knowledge base

  • Must have the willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time

  • Industry/application experience in test system design & development within manufacturing, engineering environments

  • Experience working closely with customers to understand their test requirements, test system design and test system maintenance

  • Understanding of test software architectures and workflows

  • US Citizenship/Green Card
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to determine why a customer selected a specific solution other than NI's

  • Experience in applying system design principles and large-scale integrated systems

  • Ability to visualize, identify, and solve complex system engineering problems

  • Excellent technical and executive communication skills and experience working directly with customers, engineers, and business stakeholders

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing and challenging environment

  • Problem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose effective solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and work effectively with cross-functional teams as in Sales, Product development among others

  • Interested in continued learning and finding real world applications for advanced technical solutions such as artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to engineering challenges.

  • Development experiences in languages such as Python, C#, Java, LabVIEW, SQL. And software development tools: Agile dev, Git, perforce, TFS

  • Capability of working on projects requiring US clearance
