Description:

This position specifically focuses on utilizing technical skills for the purposes of ensuring compliance with the management of environmental, safety and health programs. Job tasks are spelled out below. Job performance will be evaluated by the Environmental Safety and Health Manager not less than monthly.


• Review and approve/disapprove Hazardous Material Use Application requests for new chemicals.

• Review new/updated Safety Data Sheets and load them into the client's Chemical Management System.

• Conduct physical inventories of chemicals in laboratories, manufacturing work centers, and other campus locations as needed.

• Review and approve/disapprove chemical purchase requests to ensure the client's and regulatory standards are met.

• Review chemical usage data and reconcile/compile as necessary for environmental reporting.

• Conduct surveys of industrial ventilation equipment to ensure air flow requirements are met/maintained.

• Conduct respiratory protection fit testing utilizing the client's provided testing equipment.

• Conduct industrial hygiene sampling activities under the direction of the client's Certified Industrial Hygienist per the campus Health Risk Assessment.

• Review campus confined spaces inventory/map and update as needed.

• Assist in the conduct of periodic stormwater sampling activities.

• Periodically monitor waste practices across the campus to ensure the client's and regulatory standards are met.

• Other recurring and non-recurring tasks as needed and within an appropriate technical level.

. Requirements:

Job Requirements

• Valid driver's license

• Requires ability to successfully pass FBI background check

• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programs is ideal but not required

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to Supervisors

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) software

• Proven ability to self-manage, identify problems and define solutions

• Strong written and verbal communication skills


Training and Experience

• High School Diploma is required.

• Some background in a core science is preferred.

• 40-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) [29 CFR 1910.120(e)(1)]. Training may at some point be required, but will be offered after hire if the selected candidate does not have it.


Physical Demands

While performing the in-office responsibilities of the job, the employee may be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, and is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. He/she frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel. There may be occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor of supplies and materials weighing no more than 50 pounds. The work may involve some bending, standing or walking.


Work Environment

Mix of on-site field activities and office setting can be expected with most of work done in the field, but occasional office work and travel may be required. Primarily normal office working conditions in a well-lit, climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. The noise level is usually quiet; however, the individual can be exposed to loud noise situations occasionally. Environment will vary with out of office site visits.


Travel

The position may involve limited travel as needed. Extended periods of travel are not required to fulfill job duties.
