If you are an Automation Engineer professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you!  Based in our Sidney, Ohio location, you will work inside the corporate advanced manufacturing engineering (AME) department designing and delivering sustainable automation solutions that optimize cost, capital investment and system performance. Through creativity and applying a strong engineering aptitude you will conceptualize, generate, and propose initial design concepts in a collaborative environment.  In addition you will deliver detailed automation system designs, perform hands-on integration, and validate the system meets specified performance on the shop floor.  You will research and monitor manufacturing industry trends and implement best in class solutions for our global manufacturing facilities and other Emerson businesses. 

AS AN AUTOMATION ENGINEER, YOU WILL: 


  • Design and deliver sustainable automated robotic system solutions that optimize cost, capital investment and system performance.
  • Work closely with Controls Engineering personnel on integration of Robotic systems to process machines
  • Lead design reviews in a team environment and possess the ability to assess proposed designs to meet specified requirements and manufacturability.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles and processes to system solutions.
  • Follow development processes that have been established to meet project schedule milestones. 
  • Coordinate standardization of robotic related production tooling with process engineers. 
  • Coordinate efficient transfer of robotic programs between production lines. 
  • Interact closely with software, systems, and electrical engineering functions to develop comprehensive solutions to design problems. 
  • Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to optimize efficiencies, using CAD or simulation application tools. 
  • Ensure all robotic equipment and production related equipment meet all safety standards within designated ANSI and RIA requirements.

SCHEDULE:

We offer a work life balance to our employees, general working hours for this position are: Monday thru Friday, 8-5. While overall travel is between 25-30%, the nature of the role is such that during certain periods travel will be heavier depending on project status, and can include weekend travel at times.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical/ Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering. Associates degree with equivalent work experience would also be considered.  
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an Engineering Environment
  • Good organizational, project management, and presentation skills to interact with all levels within the organization and with suppliers and vendors
  • Ability to communicate effectively and be an agent for change
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced engineering environment. 
  • Experience and working knowledge of PC applications and Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role.

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:  


  • Seven (7) or more years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to recognize and solve complex problems in automation system design
  • Background in high speed automation processes including high-speed vision guidance
  • Experience in root cause analysis
  • Implementation experience with Poke-Yokes
  • Experience in controls including PLC, HMI, VFD & Servo Drive programming
  • Experience in industrial robotics (6-Axis, SCARA, or delta style robots)
  • Strong understanding of general safety, electrical safety, ergonomics
  • Knowledge or experience with a programming language strongly preferred
  • Prior Emerson work experience
