Howmet is seeking an NPI Program Leader with a hands-on style to provide NPI (New Production Introduction) leadership for our location in Hampton, Virginia. Located on the Chesapeake Bay between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach 30 minutes north and south, our Hampton facility is home to some of the most cutting-edge manufacturing technology for the Industrial Gas Turbine and Aerospace industry.

This position is responsible for leading a portfolio of Industrial Gas Turbine and Aerospace NPI programs within the Howmet, Hampton Casting facility. The program leader will lead cross-functional teams from pre-quote and concurrent engineering through the production launch of all programs.

Job Summary : The NPI Program Leader is responsible to deliver the program on time, meeting all financial objectives and ensuring overall customer satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities :


  • Leads the cross-functional team to develop the program timing plan including tasks, milestones, deliverables, assignment of SPAs and identify potential risks / gaps to hinder execution.
  • Drive team to execute project according to the execution plan. Identify potential risks and delays and define mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Schedule and lead cross-functional program review meetings. Draft and distribute meeting minutes including assignment list, current issues and status report. Drive accountability and ensure tasks are complete.
  • Manages customer and ensures customer deliverables are met.

    • Establishes updates internal and external MS Project plans
    • Drives weekly reviews with customer
    • Reports on key customer deliverables
    • Ensures information required from customers is obtained in a timely manner
    • Schedules and supports customer visits

  • Communicates to the broader organization the status, issues and opportunities of each program.

    • Reports out directly to plant management and ensures engagement
    • Identifies opportunities and risks
    • Maintains and reports on actual vs quoted performance

Skills & Abilities:


  • Ability to think through complex development projects and identify gaps in plans, risks and opportunities with the boldness to elevate when necessary.
  • Self-driven with outstanding organization skills, self-discipline and an acute sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a matrix organizational structure to leverage shared resources and complete programs on time.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point and Microsoft Word.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical area from an accredited institution
  • Experience with launching new product development programs, including working directly with the customer.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Working knowledge of the investment casting business.
  • Investment casting experience in Howmet or competitor manufacturing facilities qualifying new programs.
  • Program/project management experience is required.
  • Significant experience in investment castings (engr. and/or mfg.) strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing a new product development portfolio.
