SUMMARY

The Weapons & Armament Instructor is responsible for training military customers on armament and weapons.  Responsible for armament checklist procedures and safety related to armament systems. Responsible for developing the armament training POI and armament maintenance training POIs. Responsible for integrating all POIs into technical publications and for ensuring all POIs are updated to current procedures and/or in accordance with customer/client deliverables. Responsible for ensuring all POIs meet ITAR compliance requirements. Responsible for integrating with civilian production and standardizing FARP operations during customer gunnery training. Responsible for integrating with armament and weapons suppliers. Responsible for integrating with aviation maintenance programs and assisting in the technical delivery of aviation maintenance POIs. Reports to the Director of Aviation & Maintenance Training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Plan, implement and coordinate armament systems & programs in accordance with written regulations, procedures and policies.

  • Required to support customers over the phone in a timely manner 7 days a week.

  • Required to travel the Continental US (within 48 hours) and worldwide (within 72 hours) to support company and customer needs.

  • The position will be located oversees.  Travel could be up to 50% of the job.

  • Oversee the coordination for all armament resources.

  • Maintain proficiency as armament instructor IAW company tactical standards (Advanced Tactics, NVGs & Gunnery Qualifications).

  • Oversee all armament aspects of gunnery and associated Forward Arming & Refueling Points (FARP) operations.

  • Thorough knowledge of all aircraft weapons, weapons systems, and effects of munitions on weapon performance.

  • Technical writer for training POIs and training standards to ensure ITARs compliance of all armament and maintenance training as well as training manuals.

  • Technically competent in the maintenance and armament employment of the M134 minigun, GAU-19, M3 .50 cal., Hellfire and 2.75” rockets.

  • Instructs maintainers on MDHI aircraft maintenance, avionics and armament tasks in accordance with the limitations of the FAA and/or the aircraft manufacturer.  

  • Develop instructional material, presentations, plans, lessons, handouts, practical assessments and written examinations to support instructional programs.

  • Will oversee the instruction of maintenance technicians in a classroom environment as well as through a structured on-the-job training (OJT) program. 

  • Maintain aircraft armament/missile systems and components.

  • Perform operational checks, ammunition loading/unloading and weapon subsystems configuration changes for fire control systems.

  • Test, troubleshoot and repair test sets and diagnostic equipment.

  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques in order to maintain high motivation and interest in the subject areas, administers grades, records and critiques examinations; prepares and administers remedial assignments, submits written recommendations for curriculum updates to ensure consistency with changes and innovations in latest applicable publications or documents. 

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications


  • Must possess the ability to work independently, without technical guidance, to perform tasks included in the MDHI aircraft maintenance manual. 

  • Must have sufficient educational and experience background to perform the duties involving maintenance, assembly, operation, repair, test and related functions of the MDHI aircraft. 

  • Must have the capability to transfer technical knowledge to less qualified personnel and express thoughts in both oral and written communication.

  • Ability to assess and evaluate initial student technical levels and clearly communicate information to enable students to meet contractual technical proficiency. 

  • Prior experience maintaining M-134 minigun, any series .50 cal. gun, 2.75” rockets and familiarity with the Hellfire missile system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Five years related helicopter armament & weapons maintenance experience and fifteen years’ total experience in the military or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.

  • Tactically proficient in basic military tactical arming skills & capable of coordinating Forward Arming & Refueling Points (FARP) requirements.

  • Ability to take and follow direction with minimum supervision.

  • Excellent communication and team skills.

  • Fluent in the English language.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Willingness and capability to travel for work.
