What You’ll Get to Do!
The Case Managers will play a pivotal role in the success of the temporary shelter by identifying and vetting potential sponsors to place the unaccompanied children (UC). The Social Workers must effectively communicate with all departments to ensure the well-being of the UC.
Key functions you will perform!
Complete UC Assessments in accordance with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) policies and procedures
Identify and vet potential sponsor(s) and conduct placement process
Help sponsor understand, fill out, and sign required ORR and other Federal agency forms and gather documentation for the Family Reunification Packet (FRP); if sponsor can’t read or write, assist in filling out the required forms in the packet on their behalf for them to sign; if sponsor does not have an email address, help them create one
Keep the sponsor informed regarding the child’s progress and current functioning
Discuss with the sponsor services that are available in the sponsor’s community for the child
Regularly update UC portal with all UC case file required information, in accordance with ORR policies and procedures
Meet regularly with the UC to discuss progress, ask questions, and make sure they feel they are receiving proper care during their stay at the shelter
Identify Alternate Caregiver(s) (ACGs) as a back-up sponsor in case the sponsor is deported, has medical issues, or for any other reason is unable to continue to act as legal custodian of the UC
Provide weekly status updates on progress and/or challenges
What you will need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or an equivalent degree in Psychology, Sociology or other relevant Behavioral Science
Two (2) or more years of demonstrated experience in social work
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Must be able to pass MVM's Child Care Aptitude Assessment and Spanish Language Assessment
Available to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
Available to travel as necessary
Preferred Skills:
Be highly motivated with exceptional time management skills with the ability to stay on task
Work independently as well as be able to work in a team setting
Have strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and follow through successfully
Strong computer skills and proficiency of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Social work background or similar, with experience working on ORR programs
Background and knowledge of ORR programs and policies
Applicants selected will be subjected to a Government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment:
US Citizenship
Favorable credit check
Clean criminal background check
Clean Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) or Child Protective Services (CPS) check
Successful completion of Spanish language assessment
