Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
 

The Sr. Cost Accountant will provide support to the Supervisor, Cost Accounting in the accounting/reporting area, directly responsible for product costing and analysis, inventory reporting and analysis, account reconciliations for inventory accounts, analyzing manufacturing variances and determining root cause.  The supervisor will oversee the plant’s quoting process (RFQ’s).  The position performs SOX and operational compliance testing and reporting.


 
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 
 


  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares daily report comparing standard costs to actual production costs.


  • Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products and services.


  • Develop and prepare key metrics to assist measuring and optimizing the manufacturing and operations processes.


  • Analyzes changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided, to determine impact on costs.


  • Prepare manufacturing performance reports and analysis e.g. PPV, material usage, utilization, efficiencies, costs per unit.


  • Plans study and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.


  • Maintain inventory analysis reports and reserve analysis aimed at optimizing inventory levels and driving appropriate actions.


  • Assist with product quotes and maintain quoting database structures as needed


  • Assist in process and system upgrades and enhancements.


  • Assist in development of plant standard costs that include determining manufacturing rates utilizing ABC costing methodologies.  Requires system maintenance with regards to BOM’s and routings.


  • Interacts with other departments, such as Corporate Accounting, IT, Purchasing and Quality.


  • Prepares special reports and assists in special projects as assigned by Management.


  • Assist in training of newly hired accounting representatives.


  • Demonstrates initiative in all aspects of Plant Accounting.


  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and meet department goals.


  • Communicates effectively and clearly in verbal and written form.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Skills:
 


  • Proficient with PC skills including Windows, Excel and Word


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists


  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form


  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community


  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common financial reports, and legal documents.


  • Ability to effectively present information to top management


  • Ability to organize workload and multitask to meet deadlines


  • Carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision


  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels with sensitivity to cultural diversity


  • Ability to adapt as the external environment and organization evolves.

 
Experience:
 


  • 2 years manufacturing experience


  • 1 years prior cost accounting experience


  • 3 years prior accounting experience

 
Education:
 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field


     
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 


  • Advanced Excel skills


  • Experience in Oracle


  • MBA Degree, CPA or CMA
