Job Description:
We Are Hiring: Monday-Friday; occasional weekend coverage as needed from 8am-5pm.

What You Will Do: Collect and process blood specimens for testing and perform multiple clerical and processing functions.

  • May draw and collect blood samples according to policy.
  • Receive, centrifuge, accession, process and transport specimens.
  • Verify all related records.
  • Work pending lists, order add-on tests, and resolve duplicate orders.
  • Set up instruments.
  • Maintain, clean, and sterilize equipment and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
  • Perform clerical duties which may include answering phones, reviewing EKGs, collecting patient demographic data for patient registration, ordering tests, ABNs, data entry and filing.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of laboratory tests in order to convey accurate information about results and test inquiries to customers.
  • Receive specimens and ascertain if specimen meets label and container requirements.
  • Assess specimen suitability for tests that are ordered per feedback from technologists and Team Leaders.
  • Assess the tests that are ordered on each specimen and make appropriate decision on processing needs according to priority.
  • Perform centrifugation of specimens under proper conditions for different types of specimens without exception.
  • Aliquot specimens properly for delivery to different sections of the laboratory or dispatching to reference laboratories.
  • Document, complete requisitions accurately and dispatch specimens to reference labs.
  • Maintains stock of processing supplies, according to established guidelines.
  • Determine acceptability of insurance plans prior to order entry and refers as appropriate.
What You Will Need: Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Preferred Credential(s):
    • BLS Provider.
    • Certification specializing in Phlebotomy credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
    • Phlebotomy Tech.
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
    • Tech credentialed from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians.All issuing authorities accepted.
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).
    • Medical Laboratory Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
    • Tech credentialed from the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians.All issuing authorities accepted.
Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
