We are seeking talented Science Majors in the fields of Biology, Animal Science, Zoology Animal Behavior, Veterinary Technology, and Dairy Science, Equine Science and similar majors to work as a Study Technician in our Madison, WI location.
In this position you'll be able to apply your experience and knowledge with small and large animals, research studies and laboratory experience to improve health, improve lives and bring new medicines to market.
You will perform basic veterinary laboratory procedures including but not limited to the following duties and responsibilities in compliance with appropriate SOP, Protocol and Regulatory Agency guidelines.
Essential Job Duties:
Reports all animal care concerns and becomes involved in resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary
Ensures that studies are conducted according to protocol, standard operating procedure documents, and government regulations
Can interpret and understand a basic protocol
Basic understanding of good research practice (GRP) principles
Performs a data review of study materials with minimal quality control (QC) findings and understands the level of a quality assurance (QA) audit
Maintains client confidentiality at all times
Effectively manages time and resources, e.g., equipment, rooms, feed, environmental requirements, study supplies, surgical supplies
Performs multiple methods of euthanasia on multiple species
Performs basic dosing and bleeding techniques and restraint procedures on multiple species
Performs anesthesia on multiple species
Performs aseptic surgical preparation
Performs general physical exams, laboratory testing and dental cleanings on multiple species
Performs other related duties as assigned
Must be able to work in animal room environments.
Must be able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
Must be able to push or pull 50 lbs.
Must be able to wear respirators and required PPE.
May work with potentially hazardous substances or radioactive chemicals.
Overtime, holiday and weekend work as required.
Mandatory immunizations and screening as required
Bachelor degree in Life Sciences, Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.
Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals
AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is preferred, but not required.
1 year of Veterinary Technicians experience
Skill and experience working with anesthesia and monitoring preferred
