Job Description:

Job Overview:  

The Operations Manager II will support the Ridgefield Distribution Center by providing day-to day management of retail, distribution and wholesale customer service and order fulfillment. Responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods, strategies, policies and practices.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties: 


  • Maintains positive relationships with existing customers and act as UNFI’s operational point of contact with UNFI regions, vendors, third-party providers and overseas customers.

  • Liaise with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant export/import activities and support in relation to the organization’s sales, purchasing and overall operating functions.

  • Investigate, plan and implement strategically effective and relevant transport methods, which meet the demands of customers, and provide acceptable cost for UNFI.

  • Establishes processes and drives implementation for seasonal and other special and promotional programs (import and export) to insure the most cost-effective supply, delivery and shipping methods.

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to be able to engage confidently with key stakeholders at all levels across the organization and maintain complex relationships with international customers.

  • Manages the resolution of claims, directs Accounting in claims resolution.

  • Participate with division A/R and A/P departments in the resolution of outstanding debts. May require direct collection efforts with the customer.

  • Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.

  • Responsible for the daily management of and training of associates including daily order fulfillment, proper communication and proactive customer service.

  • Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of organizations mission -- specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.

  • Creates processes to drive efficiencies in order processing and logistic analytics, implements with local IT into local proprietary systems. Assures proper training of operations staff for new processes/procedures.

  • Maintain personal abilities in, and appropriate use of, all relevant ICT (Information & Communications Technology) and other systems within the import/export function.

  • All other relevant duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:  

Education/Certification:


  • BA/BS degree, or equivalent preferred.

Experience:


  • Five or more years of related experience, with at least two or more years of supervisory experience.

  • Experience in grocery distribution is preferred.

Knowledge:


  • Excellent understanding of inventory control and management procedures.

  • Understanding of Company operations.

  • Knowledge of budgeting, supply contracts, and shipping requirements.

Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent leadership abilities and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management.

  • Able to organize, coordinate, and direct team activities.

  • Strong problem-solving skills. Must be able to handle multiple challenges, projects, priorities and deadlines.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent computer skills required and personal computer experience, with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

  • Must be flexible and possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.
