Senior-System Engineer at AT&T

Job Description:

The Senior-Software Engineer is responsible for migrating AT&T applications to Public Cloud as part of the company’s Public Cloud migration program. This includes performing application environment creation in Azure using IaC script development and CI/CD pipelines, app deployment into Azure including data migrations, and configuration of monitoring and alerting for each application.  This position will also provide support to application teams during and immediately after production go-live in Public Cloud.

The selected candidate must be an Azure subject matter expert, having hands-on experience that ultimately resulted in the delivery of an application or service in Azure Public Cloud.  This role is responsible for vetting Public Cloud designs for migrating applications and translating these designs into environment build scripts and pipelines, including implementation of all required network connectivity within and outside of Azure.  This role will support functional and performance testing of each migrated application to ensure the application is ready for production go-live cutover.  This role will also provide technical support for the production go-live of each migrated application to ensure seamless production support transition to application support teams.  Application migrations will utilize tools and patterns developed and integrated by AT&T and Microsoft, including Terraform, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure DevOps (ADO), Azure Monitor, and Azure Advisor.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:  Provide senior-level guidance, expertise, and results to achieve AT&T’s Public Cloud application migration goals.  Work with Cloud Solution Architects to vet and approve designs for application migrations into Public Cloud.  Translate designs into Azure infrastructure build and deploy scripts.  Elaborate the design and interfaces for specific components including: Define subsystems and their interfaces, allocate responsibilities to subsystems, understand solution deployment, and communicate requirements for interactions with solution context.  Participate in activities consistent with a senior-level technical role:  Create and enable the Continuous Delivery Pipeline; Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of the system solution and explore alternatives; Develop the Architectural Runway in support of new business Features and Capabilities; Work with portfolio stakeholders, Solution and Enterprise Architects, to develop, analyze, split, and realize the implementation of enablers; Participate in project planning, system and solution demos, retrospective workshops; Understand technical characteristics of and assist with architectural integration of external components, systems, and platforms.


Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Typically requires 5+ years of senior-level technical experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge and subject matter expert experiences in the development and deployment of Public Cloud architectures and script development within an Azure environment.
  • Experience with Linux OS, Terraform, Azure DevOps (ADO) pipelines, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Public Cloud networking (VNET creation and configuration) is preferred.
  • Master or PhD of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Math; Developer nanodegree; or equivalent experience
