Position Summary

The Director, Data Analytics plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of activities related to the company’s Information Technology functions.  The role is primarily responsible for planning and executing the data strategy and analysis efforts within the company’s enterprise data platform.  This includes overseeing the creation and/or maintenance of data lake, enterprise data warehouse, data marts, data integrations, data analysis and reporting for end users. Strategic responsibilities include building and expanding key foundational capabilities including data quality, data architecture, and data insights. Operational responsibilities include sustaining and continuously improving key service reporting for business performance management, process improvement and decision making.

Essential Functions


  • Plan the data strategy and execute the roadmap for delivering a scalable data infrastructure and analytical insights including data governance, architecture, quality, cost efficiency, analysis, visualization, and data science.

  • Lead the data requirements definition, database and data warehouse design, logical data dictionary specification, data warehouse and data mart development, data analysis and validation, system implementation, and data maintenance activities.

  • Manage and mentor a team of data professionals; use expertise to answer questions from less experienced teammates, enhance skillsets and competencies of team members, distribute technical knowledge throughout the team.

  • Engage and expand the cross functional analytical teams via a community of practice (CoP) approach across divisions. Accelerate the data driven decision making in other areas.

  • Create repeatable design patterns to be used by less experienced teammates.

  • Monitor operational performance/metrics for team to maximize productivity, efficiency, and compliance levels.

  • Participate in stakeholder reviews, and design sessions.

  • Provide data, reports, and information to senior-level management as needed.

  • Identify, track, and monitor trends and avoidable technology-related errors; work across functions to develop complex solutions, improvements, and stop-gaps.

  • Focus on the continual improvement of policies, procedures, and processes falling under scope of authority.

  • Responsible for designing and enhancing on-prem and/or cloud-based data systems. Work with vendors, partners and other 3rd parties as necessary to accomplish goals and objectives.

  • Use expertise to resolve high level issues that cannot be solved by teammates.

  • Allocate departmental resources responsibly to deliver business value to internal and external customers through enhancement of core systems; ensure department deliverables are completed on-time and on-budget.

  • Stay abreast of latest technology trends and participate in high-level decisions impacting the direction of Information Technology function.

  • Consistently monitor and model platform usage, database sizes, compute resources and third-party costs to ensure that the project resources are managed effectively and efficiently.

  • Champion data transformation to new ways of working and generating insights.

  • Drive strong communications, partnerships, and stakeholder management with senior leaders, functional managers and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required, BS in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or related field preferred, along with a minimum of seven years’ experience in database/data warehouse development related role(s) and at least three of those years spent in a lead/managerial level role(s) required.

  • Highly proficient in data architecture, data lake and data warehouse designs and data integrations.

  • Highly proficient with data analysis and BI reporting tools.

  • Proven experience with building and leading data & analytics team.

  • Proven experience with data lake and warehouse design best practices and leading products in the marketplace.

  • Expert at creating data integrations using Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) tools and modern data pipes.

  • Strong knowledge of Kafka, Sparks, ESB and/or other real-time data integration & data processing technologies.

  • Advanced SQL and data science languages such as R, and Python.

  • Experience using ‘Standard’ data analysis methods such as Regression Analysis, Clustering Analysis, and Dimensionality Reduction Analysis

  • Problem solver with an ability to guide the team towards a solution.

  • Strong data governance skills to ensure highest quality of data is made available for data analysis and accuracy in reporting.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment, strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.

  • Strong detail orientation and highly organized with proven ability to lead effectively and drive results in a matrixed management environment.

  • Ability to think critically, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions, determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills plus demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills.

  • Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to learn/adapt to new technologies and techniques.

Environmental:  Office environment – no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
