About the Department
IT Services collaborates with campus partners to support the mission of the University of Chicago through the consistent delivery of high-quality solutions and services.

Job Summary
The job leads and provides expertise to the development of programs for network systems by applying engineering, hardware, and software design theories and principles to create a compatible system infrastructure aligned with University strategies.

Responsibilities
- Designs and documents the DNS/DHCP infrastructure.
- Manages and standardizes the operations of the DNS/DHCP infrastructure.
- Manages DNS/DHCP/IP Management service requests and projects.
- Upgrades operating system, ensuring various scripts are matched with the API versions.
- Monitors, updates, and maintains system, including resolution of issues/observations. Raises and implements (if necessary) Change Orders related to DDI Infrastructure.
- Collaborates with stakeholders, system administrators and others. Translates business requirements into DDI or process designs.
- Develops documentation standards for the network and maintains this documentation. Ensures system faults are quickly identified and corrected.
- Conducts trending and analysis of infrastructure usage patterns and makes recommendations.
- Fulfills service requests for DNS host additions/changes/deletions.
- Assists with and owns the delivery of project related works involving multiple teams and technologies with limited supervision.
- Assists in the development of project plans for network design, implementation, or upgrade work.
- Optimizes the Infoblox DDI environment.
- Provides guidance to other team members related to DDI services.
- Continues architecture and reengineering of environment to better reflect a standard vendor-recommended deployment.
- Ensures regular communications are maintained in terms of project delivery, risks and issues, targets and resources.
- Provides assistance on network related projects.
- Designs, configures, and implements changes in the University network environment. Independently develops and designs documentation and implements new networks or modifications to existing networks.
- Resolves complex DNS related network connectivity issues.
- Provides expertise to Cisco router installations, configurations, and network outage resolution. Calibrates network hardware and services for the network environment.
- Manages the installation of network hardware, communications wiring, wireless telecommunication facilities, communications software, and other network components. Identifies problems with network components and services. Conducts trending and analysis of network traffic patterns and makes recommendations.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Certifications:Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) - Cisco

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
- Bachelors degree in information technology or related field.

Experience:
- Minimum eight years of experience within an IT operations environment.
- Minimum two years of Network operations experience.
- Minimum three years of Infoblox / NetMRI server installation and maintenance experience.

Certifications:
- Infoblox Core DDI Administration accreditation.
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent network certification.

Preferred Competencies
- Working knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and design.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast pace results driven environment.
- Superior critical thinking skills with the ability to develop new problem solving approaches and formulate innovative solutions.
- Firm understanding of network topology and architecture.
- Very strong troubleshooting and analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in conveying technical concepts to a nontechnical audience.
- Diagnose complex technical problem.
- Work independently.
- Handle multiple tasks and sometimes-extreme deadline pressure.
- Working knowledge of Python or Perl scripting language.
- Strong understanding and use of UNIX command line.
- Flexibility to handle emergencies outside of normal business hours.
