Allen & Overy

Allen & Overy is a leading global law firm operating in over 30 countries all over the world. We're built on the work of talented and motivated people, in a supportive and collaborative environment, dedicated to delivering an exceptional standard of work for our clients. We operate at the forefront of the legal industry, and our deals and cases often make headline business news. With many of our partners and senior leadership acknowledged as leaders in their field, and with all our people demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism, we have a reputation for delivering excellence in all that we do.

We're thoughtful and inventive, and we've developed a culture in which difference and openness is positively valued, where people are free to be themselves. We're one global team, supportive and collaborative but also ambitious and driven. Our capacity to combine these qualities and provide a setting in which our people can thrive is what makes us different.

Department purpose and structure

Our Washington, D.C. and New York based U.S. litigation practice provides clients with a full-service offering, with a deep bench across both offices. With over 30 attorneys, our litigation practice serves clients in complex disputes, financial institutions litigation, regulatory and white collar defense, antitrust, internal investigations and special investigations for boards, securities litigation, corruption investigations and litigation related to regulatory compliance, intellectual property and professional liability.

Our distinguished Washington, D.C. investigations and litigation team is made up of expert professionals with a wealth of government experience, as well as experience litigating and trying cases in a wide variety of areas, with a special emphasis on federal criminal and regulatory matters. Most of our Washington, D.C. partners have served in senior positions in the government or regulatory agencies, giving us a unique perspective on how best to navigate regulatory and enforcement activity in the financial services industry and more widely. We also have broad experience in corporate risk and conflict management, advising senior level board members and executives of substantial corporates and financial institutions.

One of our key differentiators in the U.S. is the truly integrated nature of the advice we give, and our Washington D.C. litigation and enforcement team is at the forefront of the cross border expertise that makes Allen & Overy stand out. One of the biggest challenges facing clients in the U.S. is that multiple regulators are often involved in parallel regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. Successfully managing risks arising from this scrutiny requires a deep understanding of both the technical legal requirements of multiple jurisdictions, the investigative methods used by government regulators and criminal prosecutors, and the practical concerns of our clients. Our Washington D.C. team, working with colleagues across the globe, has the skills and experience to help clients resolve problems that arise within the context of cross-border and domestic regulatory and criminal investigations.
