Position Information
Location: Marriott Richmond

Summary

To lead the members of the Human Resources staff in accomplishing the goals of the Human Resources office. These goals include adequate, well-suited staffing in the hotel, increased retention, and the protection of company assets.

Responsibilities

• Protects the confidentiality of information in and around the hotel.
• Proactively recruits by
-Maintaining communication with managers regarding open positions.
-Working with the Admin Assistant to ensure those openings are communicated within the hotel, around WLS, and to local organizations including schools and community groups.
-Overseeing the HR Manager in placing advertising in appropriate newspapers including but not limited local papers, Hispanic Newspapers, and Church bulletins. Overseeing the HR Manager in placing radio advertising and creating and distributing recruiting flyers.
-Working with Admin Assistants to ensure job postings are up-to-date.
• Ensures members of staff perform pre-screening on applicants and qualified candidates are forwarded to the department managers for follow-up.
• Remains knowledgeable of openings at other Indianapolis White Lodging hotels and refers qualified candidates.
• Ensures accurate and complete reference checks are completed by HR staff on applicants.
• Ensures HR Staff follows proper hiring procedures with all applicants
• Provides vision and direction for hotel's orientation program. Oversees HR. Manager in conducting orientations.
• Ensures HR staff conducts file audits and associate files are up-to-date and contain all necessary documentation.
• Ensures payroll person resolves pay issues in a timely and effective manner.
• Provides vision and support for department communication tools including memos, the quarterly newsletter, and email.
• Ensures coaching and counseling procedures used throughout the hotel are legal, high quality, and follow company guidelines. Holds managers accountable for completing coaching and counseling correctly. Provides regular training to managers on coaching and counseling.
• Advises managers on terminations. Ensures all possible terminations are handled legally and properly. Participates in coaching and counseling sessions as needed. Ensures all terminations have the approval of the General Manager.
• Ensures benefits policies and procedures are communicated to all associates.
• Ensures exit interviews are conducted with a majority of departing employees.
• Works with payroll specialist to compile turnover information and issues monthly reports by department and by total hotel on turnover reasons and timing. Studies turnover and makes recommendations on ways to decrease turnover.
• Ensures temporary workers receive the proper orientation. Ensures agencies approved to provide temporary labor are in compliance with state and federal laws.
• Communicates computer needs to the hotel's Systems Manager. Ensures computer files are accurately saved and secure.
• Ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This includes:
-Ensuring screening procedures are legal.
-Working with applicants and managers in making reasonable accommodations.
-Advising managers on proper work practices related to ADA.
-Maintaining a log of reasonable accommodations the hotel has made for current and past associates.
• Ensures compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). This includes:
-Advising managers and associates on their rights and responsibilities under the FMLA.
-Holding managers and associates accountable for following guidelines of FMLA.
-Ensuring proper paperwork is complete.
• Works with the Director of Loss Prevention on safety inspections and follow-up.
• Administers OSHA compliance program.
• Ensures safety training is completed at orientation. Ensures yearly re-training.
• Works with corporate in responding to EEO, Unemployment Claims, and Workers Compensation Claims. Writes responses to claims and files them with appropriate authorities.
• Advises hotel managers on correct HR procedures and holds them accountable for following those procedures.
• Responds in a timely manner to requests for information related to unemployment insurance hearings. Attends hearings to represent the best interests of the company.
• Oversees Human Resources budget.
• Ensures celebration events for associate birthdays and service anniversaries are timely and high quality.
• Attends executive committee meeting on a weekly basis.
• Ensures hotel's compliance with affirmative action laws.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• 4 year college degree and/or related work experience.
