An opportunity has arisen for a Chemist to join this global organization within the Inorganic Analysis workteam of Intertek Allentown located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Inorganic Analysis plays a key role in characterizing what elements and compounds are present in a wide range of materials.

We are seeking a detail-oriented scientist who takes pride in helping others, wants to improve the effectiveness of our offerings, and is willing to learn .

Key Accountabilities


  • Perform tasks essential for laboratory maintenance, operation and quality assurance.
  • Perform accurate sample preparation on solid and liquid samples using various methods including acid digestion, alkali and borate fusions, and microwave-assisted digestion for trace element analysis.
  • Set up analyses and operate various pieces of equipment for trace elements determination using ICP/OES, AA, and ICP/MS
  • Measure, collect and record test data in accordance with written procedures.
  • Process data and author reports compiling data and drawing conclusions
  • Distinguish good measurements from poor ones, identify appropriate next steps, and modify methods to produce accurate results.
  • Assure projects are in compliance with current procedures and regulations
  • Provide technical training to staff members
  • Effectively collaborate with colleagues on laboratory techniques, sample preparation, instrumentation, data analysis, documentation, and safety
  • Will be expected to assume responsiblities in areas such as ion chromatography or titrations
  • Ensure compliance of company/client SOP, protocols, safety policies, methods, or other procedures with government rules and regulations

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:


  • S or higher in chemistry or other related life or physical sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with ICP and other trace analyses (may include FAAS, titrations, potentiometry, ion chromatography, etc.) on broad range of materials including polymers, ceramics, cosmetics, oils, etc.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of sample preparation techniques to be utilized on a range of materials (alkali and borate fusions, wet digestions, microwave digestions)
  • Experience with automated titrations and ion chromatography is preferred
  • Ability to apply chemical and analytical knowledge and experience to a broad range of materials for non-standard trace element analysis. Must be able to think beyond standard analytical approaches
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment with diverse sample types and develop analytical approaches for a wide range of sample matrices while maintaining safe laboratory practices.
  • Proven ability to work well within a work team environment with frequently changing priorities to meet customer needs.
  • Must have good report writing and communication skills including customer phone calls, teleconferences, and email.
  • Familiarity with Perkin Elmer, Agilent, Thermo Fisher or other relevant ICP software and Microsoft Excel
  • Eager to learn
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and desire to work on several projects at once
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
