Job Description:

Scripps is hiring! We're seeking to hire a Director, Content Application Development, Local Media. This is a division position and will have flexibility to sit in our corporate office in Cincinnati, OH, or any of our Scripps local media TV stations. You'll be responsible for implementing software applications that successfully meet the evolving journalism needs of the enterprise. In this capacity, this role leads the effort for timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.

This position is also responsible for leading collaboration between newsroom end-users and employees across the engineering and IT organizations in identifying and executing opportunities to implement newsroom workflow software solutions, resulting in a competitive advantage for the enterprise.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Collaborates with the VP of Engineering to guide newsroom enterprise application strategy.


  • Designs, writes and leads applications development for Scripps newsrooms, assigning tasks and setting priorities across a portfolio of active projects.


  • Directs division-wide software development initiatives in alignment with objectives that foster journalism.


  • Develops and implements the National Desk and content sharing strategy as it relates to designed and emerging software applications.


  • Collaborates with station Directors of Engineering and newsroom leadership to promote idea sharing and product implementation. 


  • Defines and enforces processes and technical standards for software quality assurance.


  • Directs the support of existing systems, ensuring that operational problems are solved in a timely fashion and that the application software performance levels meet or exceed the users' business requirements.


  • Mentors others across the engineering and IT organizations.


  • Performs other duties as directed.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • A degree in computer science or related subject; or equivalent experience.


  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in application design and development.


  • Prior broadcast engineering experience preferred.


  • Web development experience preferred.


  • CS, IT, Network certifications preferred.


  • Project Management certification preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings, weekends, and possible overtime hours as needed.


  • Availability to travel over multiple days is possible. 


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.


  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
