Job Description:

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive supplier quality support to Proterra’s Greenville Site Supplier Quality and Development Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for suppliers within the Powertrain category to ensure that products are delivered in accordance with established Quality Standards and customer specifications by providing support in areas of document and data collection, monitoring improvement activities, cross-functional communications, and being part of the overall cost of quality and manufacturing cost improvement initiatives.

About the Role – You will:


  • Develop APQP plan with new and existing suppliers.

    • Monitor and participate in Design reviews, define safety and key characteristics, Control Plan, DFMEA, PFMEA, Process flow, Prototype development, etc.

    • Assess gages and tooling, capacity constraints, facilities, resources and capabilities.



  • Define, review and drive PPAP requirements.

    • Design reviews, 1st article verification, packaging, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), etc.

    • Coordinate Engineering Change Notifications and Orders (ECN’s and ECO’s)



  • Perform supplier audits and performance assessments in terms of PPM, NCR’s, On-time delivery; identify risks, challenges and back-up plans.

  • Lead resolution of supplier non-conformances; track quality events, product defects or quality-related issues leading to delivery failures; work with supplier on defect containment, determination of root cause and implementation of robust corrective actions.

  • Rank and prioritize suppliers for development; create Supplier Development Roadmap.

  • Mange program initiatives and lead quality/process improvements including the following: scrap reductions/yield improvements, variation reduction and capability improvements, product reliability improvements, operational mistake-proofing, and value engineering and cost reduction projects.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to investigate and drive resolution for high-impact field failures; point of contact for powertrain-related warranty rejections.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • This position will be part of the Greenville based Quality team that supports Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations in Greenville, SC.

  • You will report to the Site Supplier Quality and Development Manager and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes:


  • 3+ years’ experience within supplier quality engineering or related field

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), ISO and TS standards

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with APQP/PPAP and in applying quality tools such as SPC, 8D, root-cause analysis, etc.

  • Experience in working with drivetrain-related components.

  • Broad range of tooling, manufacturing process and workmanship standards experience across castings, printed circuit boards and other complex assemblies.

  • Understanding of automotive Class A requirements.

  • Experience reviewing CAN data, proficiency with PCAN Explorer preferred.

  • Experience with best-in-class manufacturing practices (Lean Manufacturing, visual management, data collection, material utilization, employee engagement, cross-training, standard work, gage R&R, calibration, etc.)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and SPC software (i.e. Minitab)

Location: Greenville, SC

Travel: 20%-25% as needed (ability to travel at short notice)
