Manitowoc Cranes is looking for an Engineer with intermediate developmental skills where routine design work requires the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.  Technical capabilities are developed that allow for limited exercise of judgment on design details, development, and presentation.  You will begin to handle more aspects of small to medium projects while developing independence in operation and, therefore, requiring less direct supervision.  Assignments include some coordination of tasks with marketing and production.  Typically, will begin to work at a higher level of moderate complexity.  Reporting to the Sr. Engineering Manager, this position is located in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Responsibilities include primarily structural calculations and design with basic knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and control system design




  • Prepare concept sketches, layouts, and specification documents as required




  • Assignments may involve new product design, product improvements, production liaison and service liaison utilizing a variety of engineering disciplines




  • Prepare, test, performance, schedule, and cost information as required in assigned area of responsibility




  • Prepare and report on progress, feasibility, and concept studies, etc. as required




  • Assist other departments in preparation of manuals and sales literature on assigned projects




  • Maintain close contact and coordinate activities with other groups within the Product Engineering department



  • Ability to perform job functions in a safe manner


  • Successfully complete all safety training required by the time constraints set by governmental regulations




  • Must be able to travel domestically up to 5% of time




  • Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E) required, by company policy, for the job being performed




Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in structures, Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred with a minimum of 3 years’ experience




  • Experience with finite element analysis required.  ANSYS R19 with advanced skills in fatigue, nonlinear material, nonlinear contacts, large deformation, etc. preferred.




  • Strong analytical skills using common mechanical engineering practices for performing structural hand calculations.




  • Demonstrated ability to optimize design of complex steel structures




  • Experience writing structural test requests and reports




  • Experience with new concept design and documentation of large weldments and assemblies




  • Experience with 3-D modeling software required, Creo 3.0 preferred. 




  • Experience with off-highway / construction equipment is desired




  • Ability to work independently and in an IPD Team environment is required




  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization




  • Ability to travel domestically – up to 5% of the time.




  • Must be capable to be in a job site or production factory environment, heat, cold, wet, dry, etc. for brief periods of time
